So i want a flame angel?

I'm currently trying to get my flame angel out of my tank. It has killed every other one of my fish through constant harassment. It doesn't nip at corals, but it ruthlessly attacks any other fish.

Is it in a small tank? I have a flame angel that bothers no one, not even the Coral beauty in the tank.

EDIT: IME fish that people sometimes find aggressive are often that way because they are not provided with the correct habitat. I also keep 3 sixlines which many people find aggressive but mine bother no other fish. Plenty of space with a lot of rock to cruise in and out of hunting has worked for me.

I think the best bet would be captive bred. I got a pair from Dr Reefs that were model citizens until my tank semi crashed and they both died. Planning on another pair soon.

I hadnt considered a pair.

I would in your tank, but not in mine.

When you figure it out, don't blame me or ask me to rehome yours.

And if you have a tank where you don't care if corals get nipped and clams get eaten, and you have durable corals you will not regret putting one in your tank, unless maybe it beats up on your other fishes, but again it probably won't be right away, so why not?

The last addition is a funny thing. It seems like once we add it, another one will eventually appear and we keep adding the last one until the ecosystem goes crazy under the stress.

Why, why, why is this the usual course of tank additions?

Long read but I gotta weigh in on this I think my red devil speaks to the unpredictability of these guys lol, I have a 110 gallon in the beginning I took the risk he was perfect then slowly turned into a nightmare picked more and more which turned to basically everything except torches and hammers it got worse on corals and he killed a clam. Eventually caught him, not a good time and put in a box in the tank destined for a new home Same time a coral beauty was added and then I’m at work and girlfriend let the flame outta the box thinking it was stuck cause that happened to a damsel before that got through a hole in the lid which brings me to now I have 2 angels in there and they actually get along but crazy thing to me is red devil hasn’t touched anything since he’s with the coral beauty it’s been pushing a year now I think and with 2 clams plus lots of corals doesn’t touch anything just picks around them and mainly there’s polyp extension on sps again which he did away with immediately in the beginning but that being said I definitely keep traps ready in case he flips, he looks awesome but trust is gone

I love mine. It's in with a Valentini too and neither of those two have nipped any corals. I feel pretty lucky. I have a ton of zoas, various softies, rock flower anenomes, two mini maxis, a tube anenome and btas, emerald crabs, hermits, urchins, everyone minds their own business. Thankfully. Ha! They are a cool duo who also get along with their tank mates. No problem at all.

So, I feel like "to flame angel or not to flame angel" is a fairly common struggle. Basically the questions asked, and you get these typical responses.

A) I have never had an issue
B) It's a case by case situation, you decide if its worth the risk
C) Mine nips, but its worth it
D) Just keep it fed and you'll be fine
E) No, never, coral nipping isn't if, its when.

I feel like "is a flame angel reef safe" is a definite "maybe", but I'm curious what the average consensus on if its "worth it" is! Mostly because I been chewing this one over for quite awhile and i'm nearing my final fish load so its about time to add that last aggressive fish if im going to.

I have one in my sump... Because my across polyps all disappeared

Reef safe with caution is always just that.

I have a dwarf red flame angel, I feed 3x a day, and it has been a model citizen for me.

I do think feeding multiple times a day generally helps aggression, I know it helped in my tank when I got an auto feeder.

I think it's definitely a case by case basis. I've had one that was a "perfect little angel", wasn't aggressive at all and very rarely nipped at corals. On the other hand I had one that was an "absolute *******" very aggressive and nipped on everything.

I had a flame angel that taught my swallow tail angel to eat sps. Took the flame and swallow tail back to my LFS. Brought home another swallow tail, no more issues.
