Hanna saying i have 286 nitrates

api saying i have 0

all i have done is add like 3.5ppm ammonia could this have caused 286 nitrates i think not?

and i did a 75% water change so god knows what hanna would have said before the 75% water change maybe 500 nitrates?

what 1 would you trust as i have coral coming soon so kind of need to know

Most likely still have nitrite in the system and it’s giving you a false nitrate reading.. not sure I would put any corals in a tank that’s newly cycled ..

Also if you’re trying to cycle your tank the worst thing you can do is a water change.. let the tank be and do it’s thing and it will all balance out..
API is junk! Trust the Hannah

Since you will not be adding fish, you will be fine. Just add a bottle of bacteria if you are worried.

What is your ammonia level?

Cycled rock = ready for coral

Well to answer your question.. api is junk! Trust the Hannah.. how big is the tank and how old? How did you cycle it? Any live stock currently
the tank got dr tims ammonia chloride in about 3.5ppm it was stuck at 1.5ppm till i added rock from my 90 and now the nitrates are 286 and this is after a 75% water change surely 3.5ppm ammonia can't cause like 500 nitrates (which is what it would have been before a water change) its a fluval evo 13.5

Have you tried a new regent for the checker? Maybe they’re bad.. I use sailfert for nitrates and they’re still high in my tank..

Could be a lot of die off maybe from the live rock going into a sterile water? Idk seems a little weird… I have around 100 right now and my corals are fine and loving it! I can’t get them down with chaeto or carbon dosing… water changes don’t budge them either.. my system was purchased second hand and is 10 years old but was a fowlr so it was heavily fed and never really maintained for corals.. I think the rocks bound it up pretty good since the sand bed is only 1/2” deep at best.
