Cleaning the glass this morning and discovered I chipped my WB peninsula 7225. It hasn't been in the house 3 weeks or full of water and running for 1 full week. Don't even remember bumping it in that area.

It's along the outer top rim 3/16" x 3/8" and probably 3/32" deep at the deepest. That is out of 3/4" glass or 12.5% deep max. After reading several chipped glass posts, I see that I can order a repair kit with a UV light to harden it. But i am wondering if I would be better off with getting the car windshield people to do this cosmetic (I am pretty sure) repair. Or is it going to look bad maybe because the 45° tiny beveled edge won’t line up? And i should just leave it. My hope would be that it could be fixed such that if you knew it was there and looked for it, you could find it but not so that I will see it every time I walk past the tank.

@MiniGbr - as a resident glass artisan, do you see this as an issue?

Others having done these repairs, how did they turn out?

Lots of options. You could contact the company. You could let them know you posted here, looking for solutions; that might inspire them to help. You could moniter it or have pro smooth it out. I imagine many of the rimmed tanks have chips under the rim that no owner has ever seen.

Waterbox responded, nearly first thing this morning, to my email and said to fill with 100% silicone. My initial thought is that it wouldn't harden up enough to be able to sand it so as to try and put the bezel in. But the advantage is that I think it can be removed if I'm not satisfied with how it turns out.

You're right about that.i just got done taking my bottom frame off a new tank i bought.the edge of the glass has a huge chip in it so I'm guessing it got dropped at one point and time?i had to take the frame off cus who ever assembled it didn't push the frame all the way against the glass and the tank was sitting crooked while on the stand.it had 1/8th gaps and wasn't sitting flush.
