In other words, I'm curious what you do for a living!

I know some of you that I've met are retired. If so what'd you retire from?

Ill start! I'm not retired - I've still got somewhere around 6-10 years left. Currently (and for the last 23 years) I work for a municipal water department - currently on my 3 municipality. My background is in Water Distribution - repairs, maintenance, and metering of water.

Recently, December 15th, I accepted a position as the Utilities Water Manager (Superintendent) for this third municipality in the Southwest portion of the Phoenix Metropolitan area here in Arizona.

This new chapter has me doing more reporting and meetings than field work so I'm learning new skills.

It could be a lot of things, honestly. Either I am out rock climbing, researching old vintage video games to add to my collection (I've got too many), making sure River and Alycia are doing well, or I'm out running errands!

If not on R2R, being the official hype girl, you may find me at my nursing job, or reading a book, trying a new recipe, or scrapbooking (that's a new one)!

I became an RN in 2022 and started my career in a level 2 trauma center. That was fun (sarcasm). I LOVED emergency medicine so much and could have done it long term, but there are just some things they don't warn you about in school. It was also on the heels of COVID, which made things more complicated. But anyways, now I work part-time in an outpatient PACU, prepping patients for GI procedures and recovering them. I've been there for several years now, and it's been great.

Hobbies? As funny as it is, I love middle-grade fantasy books. They still contain great story lines, without all the gunk that I tend not to care for in adult fantasy. I also love the classic authors, such as L.M Motgomory, Louisa May Alcott, and Jane Austen. I also am a lover of all things culinary, especially baking. And recently, I discovered scrapbooking since River came along. Oh, and I hope to add gardening to my list of hobbies this year!

I have the best job ever… being a stay at home mom! Husbands military gone pretty often and we’ve got kids under school age so I get to stay home wrangling my feisty coworkers!
If I’m not performing my typical trad wife duties (even though id say cooking and cleaning are also some of my hobbies) I’m outside in my garden/greenhouse/landscaping, playing with our dog, or just hanging with friends watching our little ones play.
Once our kids get into school I’ll probably go back to the workforce. I have a background in environmental and geospatial sciences and enjoy having a job that combines my love of the outdoors and information analysis.

I work for one of the largest pork product manufacturer. Lots of traveling for me around the country.

1980 to 1996 I was an electronics tech of some kind. Set up my first marine tank in 1986. In 1995 I decided I didn't want to do electronics repair anymore and thought a marine zoology degree would be an interesting degree to pursue. Started cleaning aquariums to support myself. It took a couple years but I eventually figured out that's all I wanted to do. So here I am, with systems, fish and corals decades old and still trying to what all is going on.

I spent a lot of my time testing slot machines. Im currently working about 64 hours a week so it takes a lot of my time. Although I still browse the forum when im at work...like right now.

I was a union Heat and Frost Insulator for 45 years. Meaning if it was hot, I insulated it to preserve heat and if it needed to be cold I insulated to keep the cold in.

I am the general manager for a Marina/Boatyard. So I get to work around saltwater and marine animals a lot!

Repairing heating and cooling systems (HVAC) plumbing , and electrical reparis. I used to rock climb and ride/race motocross, arenacross and technical trails but injuries and self employment have severly reduced those hobbies. I like to fish still get to go occasionally.

Chiropractor for over 32 years. Set up my first mixed reef tank in the mid nineties and had it for 16 years. My current one has been running for over four years.

I work sales for an importer of French and Italian soaps. Basically I'm the annoying guy who calls you just as you're about to sit down to dinner to ask if you'd like to buy some soap.

Well, okay, I don't do that. I sell to retailers, so the smart ones actually want me to call them. I rarely get anyone as they're sitting down to dinner (sometimes for lunch, though!) and what I really sell is money in the form of soap. I sell to people nationwide, and because I can't always check the news before I call I sometimes catch people at odd times. Like calling someone in West, Texas in May of 2013... or someone in North Carolina in 2024.

When I'm not selling soap, I play games with my wife (board and video), watch way too much anime, dabble in woodworking, pretend to have a green thumb, attempt to write fantasy fiction, and babysit a cat who is trying his hardest to get himself shipped to Dubai. And keep a reef, obviously.
