So whats wrong with Money Orders????

So yeah, I listed almost 100 new auctions to eBay only to find out they were going to cancel them because I stipulated that I would accept Money Orders as one form of payment. What the heck is wrong with that? eBay is saying it is a violation of their new selling policy to offer M.O's as form of payment as they are trying to offer the buyers more secure forms of online payments such as "PAYPAL" which is owned by eBay. Sounds like one big monopoly if you ask me and should be illegal.

I guess next if I dont have a tattoo of eBay on my right hand or forehead they wont allow me to list items...........

Honestly, I don't even know why you sell on ebay or why anyone would! I can't see you making good profit.. I mean they were taking 12% that each item I sold, then paypal was taking another 3% ontop of that.. From making about a $20.00 profit I came out only making $3 - $5 IF THAT!

Ebay use too be a good place too sell... Now its garbage!

Just sell on your web-site...accept any form of payment you want and just let people know that the MO must clear before you ship. They say they want a more secure way to pay, but have you ever tried to have Paypal give you money back after being ripped off. Rarely happens, they always have one excuse after another. Put the money in your pocket and since you have such nice stuff, I don't think it would be a problem.
E-bay has turned into a monopoly....wait until people get used to using it and then start hitting them with fees and such....hey, that sounds like my darn debit card too.

I do not use ebay much anymore for selling. It really is a rip off. Ebay only allows you to offer payment via money order in certain categories.

It's also silly that they charge you twice on fees, once through ebay then again on paypal. :(

Perry - They changed that last month I believe. I stopped taking money orders about a year ago. I got 3 fake money orders within a 2 month period of time and figured that I would stop taking them ta save time and hassle from it.
Not only were they fake 2 of the people filed claims through ebay because they did not receive there coral. Yes, Paypal is expensive but its well worth there fees compared to getting ripped off on several orders.

Money orders are just like sending cash in the mail. IF they're legit, there's no clearing to be done. It's an easy way for a seller to rip someone off.

I bought an item on eBay and paid via money order per the seller's instructions. When I received it, it looked like something that had been stolen. Someone had rubbed off a name written in permanent marker, and it was different from the seller's. Couldn't do anything about it at that point though.

Clearly there's a conflict of interest going on with eBay, but I do understand that they have to protect people online. I'd probably be more upset if I were a frequent seller, I suppose.

I dont have the traffic or market share. I was talking with someone about this just the other day. I can put the most bomb acan on my website with a fair asking price just to watch it sit for 2 months and then it still may not even sell..

I can put it on ebay and start the bid at a penny and get 20% higher than what I would have sold it for and it' almost always is guaranteed to sell. My website sits stale with product and I always have to update it (well, not lately cuz im busy) but eBay is no fuss no muss and I move a lot of product.

Thanks Ian, and it's more than true. The problem is and has been it's been only me. A one man show running my auctions, my website, operating my wholesale business and on top of all that working my VP job in real life....hahha basically no time. BUT ALL THATS CHANGING FOLKS...lol I' just quit my real job this week to fully devote more time to my passion and my business. For all you people that say don't quit your day job, dont worry this has been in the works for almost 2 years now and I know exactly what I'm doing. I am also bringing on someone to help me do just that...UPDATE the website so I can keep it fresh and more alive. But, even with that being said. The margin of what is sold on the site is still dramatically less than what I do elsewhere. And when your talking about dedicating space to just have corals sit and not be disturbed until they sell from a website ..well thats challenging to say the least and requires a lot of space. Anyhow, thanks for your .02 cents at least I know now.

Also congrats and good luck making OIAB a full time gig :D Maybe you could do 1/4 the ebay auctions and provide a link to your site in the auction. Ive seen it done plenty of times.

The margin on ebay may seem better initally, but how is it after the fees?

All I can say is you see where Im at now dont you;) It's not for everybody but I been doing it for 12 years and got all my angles down to the most minimal costs. Cost me a quarter to auction and then a percentage when sold. I just chalk it up to advertising and write it all off as a business expense. From a localized stand point OIAB is about to see bigger and better days. Im really jazzed about all the ideas we got brewing.

I am actually considering changing my long standing auctionmethis.com name on ebay to oceninabox. The only thing holding me back, is in the back of my mind I feel there is some value to having the .com in a name. eBay no longers allows user id's to have a .com I was actually grandfathered in and allowed to keep it. I kinda hope some day I might sell the branding of the name. It has nothing to do with coral I know....but just look at that feedback...LOL
