I have a 75 gallon with a Purple Tang that has been there for over a year-
I was looking at a Sohal to add and what I find is "dont do it" but the LFS says no problems.
Its small (the Sohal) about 5 inches, the PT is about 4 inches.
I have a mixed reef;

Any opinions on whether it is a bad move?

no way 75 gallon is not big enough for a sohal and 5 inches is not small. If you value the purple tang dont do it.

I'm not the Tang Police, but a Sohal Tang needs a LOT of swimming room, and 75g isn't big enough.

The sohal would kill the purple within a week. Then the Sohal would die of stress within 6 months due to no swimming room.

Ummm...that's not what you said on a different forum. You said you got the Sohal. Hope you upgrade tanks in the future.

I have a sohal that I got when he was just a baby. Now he is outgrowing the 300 ......So no sohal in a 75 regardless of the purple tang........

Its not that the size of the sohal is the only problem. The other problem is that they love to swim a ton. a four foot tank would only stress the fish out no matter the size. Just my 2 cents.

Way to do some research, glad to hear that you didn't end up doing it. It's sad to think that there are alot of people that don't take the time to research things like this and end up losing fish and wastin $$$.
