My small 8 foot frag-display..... display-frag........drag-tank (patent pending) tank build is underway. 96 x 16 x 16

EDIT: 06/12/19 Tank will now be 96 x 20 x 16 I'm told done as soon as next week........

Is this for grow out of frags from a bigger tank, or are you going to just display frag?

It will be my dedicated tank. Light fish-load, bare-bottom. Display tank with frag-tank depth

My sump may end up being taller....

I am going to build the stand up 6-8 more inches, it has 8 4x4’s already in it for added support. After assessing the floor situation I will decide if I am going to go stone (soapstone or quartz) top, or something lighter. Polished/dyed concrete is also a contender for a budget friendly option, but those are all 300+ lb options. I may end up buying/staining/sealing a butcherblock countertop too

I was told tank-build was going to be 2-3 months because they are busy. It’s an acrylic tank, euro-braced with a single center overflow and a bean-animal return

I think I would order the acrylic and build myself if it was going to take that long. But, I enjoy building things too. ;)

I had a 4'x2'x14" shallow reef tank for a number of years. I made it myself with 3/8th inch glass. It was mostly for stuff I collected myself while snorkeling in the Keys or even stuff I picked up off the beach on Sanibel Island (barrier island off Cape Coral). I was surprised at how many live things we could collect (no mollusks or echinoderms), shrimp, crabs, anemones, algae.

Decided to go with a a live-edge 10’ long (will trim it down a bit) Black-Walnut slab that is 2.5” thick and 24” wide. I just dumped it on the floor of the garage and intended to “test-sand” it to see how nice the bark/top would turn out, and I got hooked and sanded for way too long on my hands and knees. I will load it up on some saw-horses as soon as I can, and keep going in a proper manner. Sanding with a random-orbital but feel like I could use a giant drum sander for flooring because this is tough!

I plan to go all the way to 200-250 grit

When I am done I plan to cover top and bottom (both being sanded.....) including bark etc, with a two-part epoxy used for bar tops etc. I ordered a gallon.

Second picture you can see the mill/planer marks going away as I sand it smooth...... this at only 80-grit so far

I put some 2-part epoxy on it. It looks “streaky and wavy” but it’s actually just the reflection from the ceiling because it’s so glossy it’s like glass!

Sump I got is too tall. Trashing it and buying a nice one. Other than that, I have to stand almost done. I am just loose fitting the pieces now because I will still have to drop the sump in it, but I plan to put new facia on it, and paint etc. I may leave the front panel “removable”
