Starting Over

Well I have asked questions and I have posted pics on my profile of my tank build... But I was thinking of all the different aspects that I have to modify and change and add and the list goes on. So luckly I havent done much other than add water and sand and a couple pieces of live rock. So Im taking it out. Stating over. Gonna add PVC instead of tubing. Also will upgrade the return pump, look at a new protein skimmer, add a few more bags of black sand. Along with the system I wanna add a 20 gal frag tank that will share the water. This will add that much more filtration to the system (hopefully). Also I have to add a phosban reactor along with carbon and GFO reactor (please correct me if Im wrong).

My question is when I pull out everything thats in the tank currently and clean... when adding the dead live rock (pukani is the kind im looking at) do I need to cure in the tank or should I do it outside of the tank?

If it is a brand new tank, I would let the rock cure inside of it after getting all the obvious dead stuff off before putting it in. It will help it cycle.

I also used Pukani in a new tank and that stuff rocks (like that pun?)!!! I didn't clean much organic stuff off so it would help cycle the tank.

I don't think you need to run phosban AND gfo. I'd run gfo and purigen in one reactor and carbon in the other. The gfo and purigen have little longer lives and that would make your maintenance easier as the carbon would need changing more often.

You using ro/di water? That was probably my biggest mistake when I started up my salty tank

Im guessing purigen is a type of media. I guess I could always have an extra opening in my pipe and I can cap it off if I decide to add the phosban.

You can use Chemipure, as it too is a media based filter.
I've had glorious results using that with my nano.

The cost of it is around 10-15 a pot.
