Hi there my fox face has spots of some sort on him again. These spots appear white (similar to ich), but also can create a dark brown spot around it if it is on the body of the fish as apposed to the fins. These spots dissappear and re-appear every 24 hours. It appears like a wound that is healing or a sea urchin sting. I have looked over the internet and others seem to also have the problem so I believe it is something to do with the fox face that causes the confusion. I have dosed Prazi pro and I am on my second dose and the specks have come back so I don't believe it is black ich. Could I be advised on the other possibilities based on the characteristics of it's nature

These are for sure puncture wounds either from urchin or bite marks with me leaning towards urchins. They do often go for food that has fallen between the spines and get pricked with the needles which are harmless but will leave a mark

Foxface form granulation tissue at the site of injuries or disease, this shows as a brown ring around the spot. These look like mucus plugs or stings, but the coming and going every day or so is a sign of ich, so there may be two issues going on here. White spots on the clear portion of the fins is more a sign of ich.

Hi thanks for the reply 🙏
The spots did get more numerous but a fresh water dip and all the spots have changed location after 24 hours. The brown spots and the white spots both change.

If it were bite marks could the wounds dissappear and re-appear every 24 hours?

Generally not, but not to be ruled out. I still see stings or puncture marks. Do you have urchins?

Oki doki. Nope no urchins. Only thing that could inflict the wound is the baby trigger about the size of a thumbnail. I haven't seen him display any aggression, but I'm thinking I'll have to put him in a acclimation box to rule that out. I don't believe is him but probablygoing to do it anywayif it doesn't clear up. I've seen others have the same problem with fox faces and also not really resolve the issue. It atleast doesn't seem to be bothering him and he eats fine.

Sounds like it’s flukes - the FW dip knocked the adults off the fish, but new fluke larva still in the tank reinfected it.

I thought it might be flukes but none of the stuff pops off in the dip I think comes off a bit later did my best to see if I could find any in the container. Also flared up again day after my second prazi pro dose so I'm not sure :/

For anone that comes accross this in the future I believe it was Ich as the parasite burrows into the skin of fish. This resulted in the fox face having brown spots at the site where the fish was fighting off infection. Thanks everyone that helped 😊

Back again sorry.
I placed the fox face in copper and the spots didn't go away. What ended up working is increasing his nori and veggies. So I believe it was lymphocystis

Thread 'Foxface Rabbitfish developed this overnight. I’m thinking either ich or flukes but i' https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/foxface-rabbitfish-developed-this-overnight-i’m-thinking-either-ich-or-flukes-but-i.789362/

The presentation just isn't right for it to be Lymphocystis - with that, the primary growths are on the trailing edges of the fins, not the body.

In the other thread, they used hyposalinity - that would work for encysted parasites.

Right 😅
Shows that I've still got some stuff to learn. Thanks for your help I've managed to learn a thing or two. Not really sure what the little guy has but it atleast seems to go away provided the fish is fed correctly and has good water quality for me.
