So, not really a critter, but I've noticed a few stringy things flowing from my coral the past few days. What is this?

I believe they are a sort of snail .. it casts a web like string out too catch food ..if you watch carefully you can see them pulling it back in again .. I usually plug the ends up with a bit of epoxy .. they can irritate your corals .

Sorry, I know this has been answered, but were you referring to the strings coming from the coral itself? There is a vermetid on the hammer's left branch for sure, but it sounds like you're referring to the corals ability to produce a mucous "net."

I do think I was looking more at that "net" on the right side.

I have a few of these in my tank (OP pic). It very well could be a vermitid but if its always there, its more likely that its just some almost dead algae.

If it came from the coral it'll be pretty thick, especially if you target feed.

I have a few of those vermetid snails. I'll see if I can get a pic of their feeders today for comparison. They're not nearly as thick, so they'll be pretty difficult to see, but one may be in optimal lighting for it.

agreed. Also, if youre low on nutrients (<5-10) then they will only come out at feeding time

OK. So the vermetid is VERY hard to see. I have seen pictures of them with multiple threads, but I can only see one here.
