I’ve had my BTA for 5-6 weeks. It hasn’t moved much and seems fine where it is, except it looks stringy most of the time, with the polyps kind of crinkled, some even rolled up near the crown.

When I feed it, this goes away and the polyps become thick and extended, and it looks nice. But it only lasts about 2 days before it becomes stringy again.

Some people don’t even feed their anemones and they look nice (somewhat thinner maybe, but not stringy).

Why is mine this way ? It’s my first one so I’m learning.

Thanks

I'm one of those who never feed my nems. Doesn't look happy in the sand like that though. Most attach under a rock and make a "J" as they reach for the light.

Parameters and lighting? Using RoDi? Age of tank?

(Just asking the basics)

I don’t have any when it’s stringy. Here it is when it looks okay; that was maybe 2 weeks ago.

I just fed it a few hours ago so it won’t be stringy for a few days now.

Ah, yes, looks stringy like spaghetti.
It's possibly reaching out for more light, it's new and on a frag plug so currently stuck.
Bta should not be stuck down on a frag plug!!!
I'm unsure how to address this but your BTA foot is stuck down so can not freely move

Video looks better than original pics for sure. I'm thinking environmental though. Mine usually get smaller when they catch food, not the other way around.

In regards to 'your video' it looks like it's on a frag plug
Hard to tell from his video but my guess is the nem is making the "J" I spoke of and attached under the rock.

Definitely not on a frag plug or glued to anything. It’s free to move.

Yes, it’s attached to the rock.

Yes, it’s attached to the rock.
Shrinking or not fully extending could mean lights are too much or environment is off. Mine are right under a kessil 360 at 95% though. So once acclimated, they can handle a ton.

Ah, my apologies. it looks like it reaching out, stretching out for maybe more light, what lights/ schedule do you have, do you run white lights. Since my anemone split one has gone to top of rocks and other has hid in a cave again, I think my main has hid and new is looking to grow.. on top

iMHO - that may not be enough light - however - if fed - it may also not need as much. If it goes between 'spaghetti' and normal - you're fine. It could also be being stung by the coral nearby at night, etc.

Why isn’t going where there is more light if it wants more ?

The coral above is a Duncan. I didn’t think they could extend polyps ?
