Sump Media

Hey everyone!
I am putting together a new sump build it has 3 big chambers, I wil use the first for filter socks and mechanical media, middle for a refugium and the last for my return and protein skimmer. I was just wondering what people's favorite mechanical filtration for their sump is. I got some pinky filters to polish the water after passing through the refugium, but what are some media ideas for the first big chamber? Im open to any ideas!

I don't have any input for your media question, but I'll advise against having the skimmer and return in the same chamber. Too difficult to keep the skimmer happy with a fluctuating water level.
Maybe consider turning the middle chamber into 2 chambers - the first for the 'fuge and the next for the skimmer.

Yes def never put a skimmer in the return section , not just from water level fluctuation but micro bubbles can be an issue as well. If your first two chambers can fit the skimmer use one of them
