Are 80W T-5 bulbs (Blue+) effective mounted 12" above the waterline?

How deep is your tank?

I have mine mounted around 16" above the waterline but I have shallow frag tanks.

I have a 24" deep tank and recently raised the fixture from 8" to 12". (better access) The PAR reduction seems very significant.

Having run t5’s high up (36” from the sandbed, 24” from the top most coral) I wouldn’t recommend such a high mounting height. I’d sooner mount them closer to the back of the tank and lower down at 6” above water line. Which should allow your arm to fit in
