Sometimes it strikes me when I do something for myself after I do something for the fish how much nicer I treat the fish than me in some respects.

When I clean something for the fish I will clear it in RO water and then a final rinse in DI water. I just dumped out some soda, rinsed the glass, really plastic, in tap water and filled it with water, at least I drink RO water, to drink. The fish get DI.

The air conditioner keeps the house lower than I would have it for me, just so the fish could stay in their .7 degree range. I even would lower the house temp later in the day if the tank got .1 too high. I added fans to increase evaporation to keep the tank cooler so now I can raise the temperature for me, I would really be more comfortable if it was a little lower and the increased humidity does not help.

The carefully chosen frozen food with the added minerals and the bit of nori, changed daily, the occasional supplement, and don't get me started about feeding the corals. I have been known to stop at a McDonalds and bolt down a quick lunch consisting of God knows what.

Several times a week I check several chemicals in the tank and I have spent hundreds trying to control some. I never check for chemicals that might harm me.

When they get sick I quarantine them in the hope that others will not get sick. When I go out people with the flu cough on me.

You can take care of yourself but they can't. We tend to think differently about something that's solely dependent on us.
