Ended up going with waterbox reef lx 290.6.
72.3x29.5x25.6

So far I for a small convict, orange line bristletooth, and orange shoulder. Any suggestions for other tangs? Maybe a purple and chocolate?

That’s 3. The orange line/spot bristletooth tang -ctenochaetus striatus

I was looking to maybe add 2-3 more.
Personally I would go with 1 zebrasoma and 1 acanthus, but you would need to provide ample territory for them. Posting a picture of your rock work will help determine what else you can add.

I was saying those two you wanted to add would be fine with the ones you have, as in yes the chocolate and purple should be fine to add

A more mild acanthus/zebrasoma combo like a yellow and mimic should be fine! I wouldn’t recommend anything more aggressive that that though

The one in my LFS’s display is super aggressive! Dudes in a 500 gallon and chases the heck out of everyone! And one they are selling (not in the DT) also chases and bullies the fish in the tank with him! Based on seeing two different fish I would say yeah they are aggressive lol. Maybe add last! Cool tang though

Purple tangs are also very aggressive, so be careful too! White tail bristle tooth is a great tang! I would say 2 tangs, depending on the other fish. Is this a reef or FOWLR?
My purple tang is probably the most peaceful tang in my tank, super chill. I find most zebrasoma easy to mix together

Chocolate AKA Mimic tang
Tomini
lavender
Maculeceps
hepatus blue
yellow
convict (make sure it eats and healthy)
Mimic tang is a great choice! Super peaceful fish and they get such pretty deep colours as they get older, some even keep the yellow if you get a yellow mimic.

Tomini is nice small tang, most the time I'd only recommend 1 type of bristletooth as they get aggressive with each other!
Edit: I lied, I've seen massive tomini tangs, although uncommon in the aquarium industry, they can grow big.

I'd be careful of the lavender, hippo blue tang and maculeceps, Acanthurus are some of the harder species to keep due to the aggression and stress. Can be done and some people luck out, just be prepared. Maculeceps are pretty but I also thought they get pretty big. Guess is depends on O.Ps long term plans blue tangs do have a lot of character and are probably one of the hardier of the Acanthurus species in my experience. I would also say they can be big beautiful dumb manaces at times with big tempers, but none the less they can make for a good laugh lol. from laying sideways playing dead, chasing itself in the reflection, trying to be dominant, to tearing bubble corals apart because it didn't like the location of it lol. They are one crazy fish.

Yellow is like a staple and as I said earlier zebrasoma is I personally think hands down the easiest of the species to care for and get living in harmony

I would love to try the convict again, but my one has a complete A hole and had to remove the manaces

I'd say with high confidence even 3 zebrasoma all added at the same time would be your safest bet.

mixing up the species second best option being mindful of the Acanthurus.

If I could do it over again, I'd love to do a school of tangs and would just do one relatively small species. But to stay on topic do some research on zebrasoma you might even be able to get away with 2 plus a brisletooth. Or even 3 convicts might work well again convict tangs are Acanthurus so aggressive.

These fish also get territorial fast, so my little tip when adding new members or mixing up your current tangs. Move your rockscape around or create a new one, it will reduce the aggression whilst they tussle for territory. Once they settle in and find there spot, most tangs will be very protective and that equals aggression.

Now I'll add I am also countering myself here by saying the mimic is a peaceful fish in my experience, others may very. But again this is another acanthus species lol

Just do some research, this is directed at the O.P was just using your reply as something further to stem from and sharing my experience. Everyone's will differ

Happy reefing all

I have multiple bristletooth which get along great. Maculiceps is one of my model citizens and was a jerk for a few weeks at first. I have a mix of 26 tangs and what is bad for one person is not suggestive of all tangs which you recognized.
I however from decades of experience will state, problem tangs will be Desjardini, sohal, powder blue, clown and kole. Ive seen some of these as model citizens for a handful of owners but for a majority- their tank nightmare

Jealous of that hippo! I cant seem to keep them. Last one I got was a beautiful adult about 8 inches. Was so healthy and fat, then brought something in my tank and I had a huge outbreak. Lost the big hippo. Havnt had the heart to try again. I have a powder blue now as my “blue” fish

Lol yeah I had a mean one in my 125. Decided to try again in the 300. And I needed a tang that was more aggressive than my massive sailfin to keep his butt in line lol. Its worked very well. They get along after the initial tail strikes and chasing.

Yeah I love the color on powder blues. Would love to try one. Maybe in the future I'll think about it. It would have to be the last tang anyway.
