The dots almost looks less frequent today. They also look fuzzy and it looked like some where falling of or hanging on by a thread. Here is more pictures. The plan is to run to the LFS after work to weigh my options.

Well, almost all of the fish died. I have the eel, three striped damsel and a domino damsel left. I moved them out into my 20L, and I am treating them with seachem cupramine. Only things left in the DT are two anemones, two emerald crabs and maybe some snails and hermits. I plan on going fallow in that tank for 76 days per recommendations on here.

The domino was not doing well when we moved him. He had fin rot, white spots, and he was white in color. I hope the seachem cupramine is enough.

Does anyone know if I should be doing more than what I have described here? @Humblefish @Scarybo @4FordFamily @ngoodermuth

Eels don't typically do well in copper. You can try it, but you must be ready to move him out and into a non medicated tank asap if he starts to look weak, lethargic or just badly in general. CP is better for eels.

I am going to bring it up slow, and probably only to .4. I read a post on Seachem forum that it will be fine as long as it is slow. Also, my LFS has a zebra eel in the same stuff, and he has been doing fine. It said cupramine is safer for scaless animals, too.

I will watch him, @melypr1985. He has been his usual self since we put him in the QT. Should I be doing anything else to get my DT ready after 76 days or should I be treating QT with anything else? I remember it said do not mix medication when using cupramine.

I'm sorry for your losses, velvet is a tough one...

You might add kanaplex to your HT. It will help ward off secondary infections, which it sounds like might be what's going on with the domino. The only thing, I'm not very familiar with eels or treating/mixing medications with them.

Giving the domino an acriflavine bath might help as well.

Thank you for the responses. I think it would be best to not 0ut anything else in to the HT since the eel is in there. A dip does sound like it might help the damsel because he does have fin rot.

The third photo of the scopas tang shows definite velvet around the rear end of the fish. At .4 ppm ensure you test daily to make sure the levels never drop or restart your clock for 30 days.

Sorry for your losses :(

The eel was not the same color as he usually was, so we moved him back. Is it considered fallow if I still have the eel in the DT?

Nope, there can be nothing it can feed on. Is there a TTM analog that works for velvet? I know the speedy life cycle makes it more difficult, but perhaps that would be an option if you are willing to do the extra work.

Nope they'll need to use CP (chloroquine phosphate). Or the fallow period will not work and new fish will all be reinfected, unfortunately.

Nope. Your fallow period doesnt start until all fish are out of the DT. As long as there are fish in the DT, the parasite has a host to survive on by infection. This includes even if you cant see the infection. It can reproduce in numbers that arent sufficient to produce visible symptom but will explode later under the right conditions. Best option would be to get a separate QT for only the eel. I know it is a hassle to have two QT's but due to the copper sensitivity of eels and limited treatment options that is the best scenario.

Anemones are fine to leave in the DT, along with emerald crabs, snails and hermits?

Ok I remember some talk about trying TTM for velvet in the TTM thread but no idea what came of it.

Using TTM to treat velvet is still highly theoretical. But when I get back to experimenting, this is how I will attempt it:

Day 1 - fish in tank
Day 2 - 1st transfer at 36 hours
Day 4 - 2nd transfer at 36 hours
Day 5 - 3rd transfer at 36 hours
Day 7 - 4th transfer at 36 hours
Day 10 - 5th transfer at 71 hours
Day 13 - 6th transfer at 71 hours

In theory, the above protocol should eliminate both velvet & ich.

That's a lot of transfers but it would be well worth it if it works!

I feel like maybe we should be more proactive on following a TTM procedure while ramping up copper in cases of emergency even if we eventually find that the lifecycle is too unpredictable for good success with TTM alone. The reduction of new attachments must be hugely beneficial for the fish.
