Tank cycling

Hi all
I started cycling my tank 8 days ago with Dr tims amonnia and fritz turbo start following along with Dr tims directions.two days ago I measured 0.16 amonnia yesterday I couldn't do any checks and also didn't add any more amonnia today I tested and its at 2.50. Is this normal or is there a problem?

Why are you mixing protocols? Follow the Fritzyme protocol if you are using Fritzyme bottled bac. Follow Dr Tim's if using One and Only or traditional cycle with his ammonia product.

Retest your ammonia, something is not right

Fritz Turbo start has been well vetted on this forum. It works as directed. You likely could have begun stocking days ago. It would be prudent to figure out the ammonia testing discrepancy first now though

IIRC, the protocol is pretty much dump it in and add a couple of fish.

how to cycle a tank with fritz: tip some of the contents of the bottle into the tank. you're cycled.

Well if you want to take a chance to kill fish. There is a fishless cycle. I used Pure Ammonia myself then added one bottle worked fine. Randy Holmes did an article about it as well

Fritz Turbo start has been well vetted on this forum. It works as directed. You likely could have begun stocking days ago. It would be prudent to figure out the ammonia testing discrepancy first now though

I did another test and it was 0.04ppm so there was definitely some sort of contamination with the first test

Not a problem from what I have read. You just want it under 5 when Nitrates are produced. I have an article I have and will post if you want, I followed it and worked for me

Nitrifying bacteria is present pretty much everywhere. A fishless cycle is used when you taking the relatively small amount of nitrifying bacteria present, and adding ammonia from an outside source. My understanding as to why you shouldn't add livestock is that there's not yet enough bacteria to offset the amount of ammonia produced by the fish.

Fritz, Dr. Tim's, etc. essentially add an amount of bacteria to the tank that's capable of carrying the ammonia load right away. If dosed in the appropriate amount, there's no need to wait before adding some livestock, and there's no more risk than waiting it out with the traditional method. But if that's what you want to do, you're certainly able. It just isn't necessary.
