Has anyone suffered from just not wanting to do anything regarding your reef? I had a gradual decline in my system to where I'm almost at the ck bottom. Anyone have suggestions to over come this? I still enjoy the hobby but I'm just in a funk

What I find that helps is just not buying anything new for a bit. Setting a budget on what you can spend and sticking to it.

For me when i get burned out, its when i allow myself to spend too much.

Yep, I have had reefing burnout before. I think it is a common theme with a lot of hobbies. Sometimes it is best to either take a step back from the hobby or to reduce how much you are taking care of at once.

What's happening with your system?

This may depend on what motivates you to continue... For me it was the fact that my wife really enjoys the tank... She even contributes to livestock and some hardware. Also, the amount I invested motivated me to push through my dinos phase, which was extremely depressing and difficult (I really did want to quit).

I had STN to take out all my Acros last year. The tank is running and fish are swimming, but no corals to be seen in the vast wasteland. I'm going to chill for a bit longer, then break down the entire tank, clean everything and start fresh with zero Vermetid snails and will not bring in another frag plug...fresh cuts only. The tank has been running for almost five years with many lessons learned. It will be good to start over after a nice break in the action.

So it’s been declining as far as water quality, I have no fish in it, and the corals aren’t thriving. I have just had no gumption to do anything about it.

I'll go against the grain from what others have said. I find times where I don't want to engage with the tank to be overcome when I do spend money and buy new things. It sounds like you aren't suffering from needing to dial back spending, but maybe up it? It can be exciting to try out new equipment or add new livestock.

Without any fish in your tank, I can see how you'd lose interest in fixing things. It's also somewhat of a motivator imo to not have your money spent on the tank go to waste by letting things die from inaction on your part. Goodluck

Had this happen as well. I find stepping back helps. Just maintain tank best you can and eventually things will improve and then the bug bites you again. Good Luck!

+1 get a fish with personality. Corals are pretty to look at but not as interesting IMO.

A dozen blue green chromis would make life interesting for a while...until there's just one left. 😉
