Tank mates with Cortez Ray

Thinking about changing up my tank after a crash. Had a nice mixed reef going and lost about 3/4 of my corals. Anyways...

Tank is a red sea s1000 82x26x27. 262g system.

Have been wanting another ray for a while. Had a blue spot 20 years ago.

What other fish are okay to be housed with a Cortez ray? other then sharks. I do have access to a 450G tank eventually if I care to set it up( don't really want to though)

I currently have a porcupine puffer, 6 different tangs, foxface and a darwin clown.

I do plan to set up another smaller tank for a mixed reef and eventually 4 or 5 of the tangs, the clown and foxface will go in there. My big unicorn tang and puffer will likely stay in this tank if compatible with a Ray

Rays and sharks want a LOT of room, I'd be setting up the 450g if I had the space and the tank.

No sharks for me. Just thinking the smallest ray possible. I have had a blue spot many years ago.

The 450g is not an option currently because I wouldn’t be able to get it in the house. Later down the line it is an option as we are looking at an addition to the house and can/will incorporate the space needed.

Puffer could mistake your Rays eyes for food when its buried. Typically not a good match. Tangs can be hit and miss although majority behave with rays.

Yep, I guess I go lucky previously but I am going to pass on the Cortez.

I was working on taking my mixed reef toward more sps when I had the crash. Had just installed a calrx and just needed to fill the c02 bottle And got my mixing all operational.

Think I am going to use the clean slate and still head toward a sps dominated tank.especially since I no longer have 50+ bta in it

same my tank crashed lost corals and prized fish, just do what will not cuase you stress cause at the end of the day theres a nice tank to look at

Yea, I lost 90% of my corals and all my BTA(gave them away before they perished and nuked the tank)

Did not loose a single fish luckily

Only corals to survive were my mushrooms, a couple patches of zoas are just starting to open after 6 weeks and 2 heads of Duncan made it.

Actually was working on it today and just got my canopy up, still need to suspend from the ceiling, on temporary legs

yeah the longer you in the hobby more tradigies, lost me hole tank pair of clowns from my grandama, a blue tang, 6 green chromis, 2 anthias, wrase, and my oldest fish a blue yellowtail damselfish that had been with me for years. all inverts and coral did make it, but i am still here

That’s all you can do. I thought about getting out but think I am just going to let the tank settle and run till after the new year and then get back into it and start stocking.

Going to try to scape it tonight maybe. When it was crashing I screwed everything up getting the BTA out

nah i set up a tank after left it alone for like a year and then when i added sps and other cool fish it was great

This current tank has been up for 8 months, prior tank was a 300g that sprung a leak, but everything came from my 125 that was put up 2 years ago.

The crash was my fault for being lazy and gambling.

I have been running my tanks off well water for 3 years. I didn’t know it but a neighbor on the same water table treated their well and I pumped a bunch of chlorine into my tank. Took a couple days to figure it out. Started dosing prime daily and things slowed down but some stuff was to far gone. Tried transfering corals to my small tank but they were already to far gone

No I got the bta out. They were shrunk and shriveled and would just peel off the rocks. We’re floating around in the tank and settling in a pile. Was easy to remove in the end
