as far as the noise: In my oppinion some stock Durso's are very loud. depending on the brand, some are worse than others. If there is noise in the overflow look at tuning the drain standpipe. the entire drain should be a non glued slip fitting so you can pull it out and work on it.
as far as the sump noise. I assume it is the drain crashing into the water that is the noisy part. I like to convert the very end of the vinyl hose into hard plumbing, and convert it to 1.25" plumbing. I like to us a Tee fitting a,d add about 1.5" into each side of the Tee. then drill about 20, .25" holes in the bottom side of the Tee. I then hang a 7" filter sock on the end. instant mechanical filtration, and if you measure correctly and the Tee ends up about a 1/2" above the water line, it will be very quiet.
