Hi there guys I'm dave an new to this group. Just a few quick questions to get things started in the tank the right way.

60g wave front tank
Trigger v34 sump
Kessel ap700 light
Reef octopus 200 skimmer

Just wondering on how long an intense to run the lights? Would incorporating t5 with the light help corals better in the grand sceme of things?
How much water movement should I get in the tank to make it benefit things?

Want to keep things ultra low maitenece as possible so I have set up refugium in sump with kessel h80 tuna flora grow light with some cheato algea to help with nitrate/phosphate levels, rock, and live sand. Just wondering what are good ways to keep kh an calcium where they need to be. Thanks ahead guys for the info an will get tank/sump shots very soon so I can get all the help I need before I turn it into a big headache.

Welcome to R2R!!! Lighting depends on what you plan on keeping. I run a T5/Led hybrid and I love it. As far as duration I try to mimic the light of the day. I start to ramp mine up at 8 am and down at 8 pm for a total of 12 hours with the middle 6 hours at peak, but I have a sps dominant tank. You can do the same for softies or lps but the intensity will be less. If you plan on running a hybrid then I would suggest renting a par meter to check it as the hybrid can toast corals very easily.

Welcome Dave. There's a lot of really experieced reefers here who can answer all of your questions. You have a lot of questions. Can you give us a little more info about your tank? Maybe a picture?

Hey welcome to Reef2Reef! It might be helpful to do a search for your specific equipment and see what photoperiods, and flow rate other people are having success with.

As far as keeping calcium and alkalinity where you want them to be, it depends on what kinds of coral you want to keep. For some corals like soft corals, and even some LPS, water changes may be sufficient. If you're using more than that, kalkwasser, or 2 part dosing like BRS pharma, or ESV are good places to start. In a new tank, hand dosing is definitely do-able but as the tank consumes more and more calcium and alkalinity, you can look into the luxury of a dosing pump.

These are some pics withe t5/halide lights just a few days ago after I just got done setting it up an turning things on to find any unseen issues. One is with all lights on another with just t5 an the last would be just night lights. The ap700 will be here sometime today so I can start getting that up.

Thanks just wondering if it is a true 60g. I bought it use an can not find any info or manufacture so just trying to make sure before I get ahead of myself. Detentions are 15.5 in on narrow end, 20.5 in on fat end, and 24 in tall. Anyone with ideas would be helpful.

Should I run my lights while the tank is cycling to get everything on a schedule? Does it make a difference in the long run matinance of 5he tank?
It’s not necessary to run your lights while tank is cycling. I would think about which corals you plan on keeping and then start to get together a plan on lighting.

I owned a full time retail Pet store for many years and sold these. It positively is 95 gallon wave. Other manufacturer was Marineland.
