Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to post an update. I had an outbreak of various diseases/parasites after not having a QT which prompted me to set up a 29g QT and treat all fish. The DT tank (72g bowfront) sat fallow for 6 weeks and last week on Saturday, I made the executive decision to move them back as they seemed to be not doing well in QT.

They went through 4 weeks of Cupramine, 3 rounds of prazi, the trifecta of antibiotics, and finally before introducing to the DT, a formalin bath.

What started with ich evolved into something else later on after copper which prompted other meds. After having 4 days of no symptoms (finally) I was at the 6 week mark exactly and I decided to risk it and put them back after a formalin bath.

The first couple days, they seemed a little itchy in the DT but fast forward to today, they are all doing well. Eating very enthusiastically. I’m leaning towards “ghost symptoms” for the couple days after the QT. It makes sense that if they had a ton of parasites living on and in them, they certainly feel different now and may not be quite used to it.

When I had my first outbreak, flashing was present within days and spots within a week so I’m feeling pretty good. If ich comes back, I will try to manage it and add a UV, otherwise, I’m hopeful! I am happy to say I lost no fish during this and am even more happy that I was able to successfully get my CBB to eat with excitement.

Here is a pic from tonight:

Looks good and good news. Great that you saved a cooperband thru all that. I so much as look at them in the store and they die. ;VomitHopefully all disease are gone. Having a fallow tank drove me nuts.

Thank you both! I’m so glad I set the QT up. Beyond disease treatment, it really acclimated the CBB to feeding. It (and I) knows that it loves clams now and wastes no time devouring them, will even follow me on the glass! That Kole tang though... TBD on jerkiness level.

Congrats! I have my QT tank started. Waiting on it to cycle to get fish! Super excited! Glad yours worked out!

If you’re just starting out, kudos for starting with a QT! I should’ve from day 1.

Pretty awesome to go through that with no loss of life.

I had a similar situation. After treating the fish with praz and copper, one of mine (green wolf eel) developed a secondary infection in his tail. The trifecta didn’t seem to be helping, so I tried the only other thing I could get my hands on, erythromycin which was in stock at Petsmart. That seems to have done the trick. He is back from deaths doorstep, but about 1/2” shorter than he was before. His tail is pretty messed up.

I suppose the weakened immune system from the copper and poor water quality of the qt after 76 day fallow was just too much.

I didn’t have a qt or meds to properly treat them when I had my outbreak, so I lost several fish by the time I got it all set up.

Lesson learned. It won’t happen like that again.

I for sure know what you mean! After treatment and seeing things still a little funky, I did a 50% water change in the QT which seemed to be what finally cleared up the one clown that kept having issues. I then thought, perhaps it’s the poor water quality and also thought of the ich I dealt with and how quickly it seemed to appear, I was willing to risk 6 weeks being enough time not knowing how much more time the QT could be stable.

I’m glad your QT was successful. Your future reef thanks you ;) looking good!

Thank you, and thanks for the help during the QT process, I tried to follow the advice as best I could! The only thing I’ve not done “kosher” is the 76 days, but I’m willing to deal with whatever comes if ich shows again.
