Temp fluctuations

Just wondering what you all think about my temp fluctuations. Tank is just over 10 months old and my SPS are finally getting some growth and color back.

I guess I'm asking if my daily temp swings are too much or in line with everybody else's out there.

My tank stays within a degree of itself, most commonly within .5 degrees.

How big a swing is too much? I do not heat my new salt water so I drop the temperature in mt tank by 3-4 oF when I do water changes. I have not noticed any ill effects.

When scuba diving I often notice large temperature shifts with tides and current.

I think if your temperature swings are consistent then that is considered stable. The ocean water temps fluctuate between 5 degrees year round but over the course of a week or two will be very much the same. Id think a swing within 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit up or down is fine, in terms of celsius thats only about 1 celsius. As long as that swing is always happening id say the corals will be fine. Just don't want to swing 3 degrees one day then nothing the next then 3 again a few days later.

2 degrees is probably fine, but I would keep it lower if you can. Get a strong fan to run when the spikes happen (assuming lights) - turn it on when your lights come on and it should barely move. If you get cute and wait until the tank starts to warm up to turn the fan on, then sometimes you can never catch up. Look at a vornado or other fan for a "room." Small computer sized fans have always been a joke for me.

Good call. I have the flan that blows over the sump to turn on when it gets to 80. I'll just turn it on when the lights turn on.

The top of the tank will work better, but this should be better than what you have.
