I'm about to begin TTM to ultimately transfer my fish from the old to new tank. I thought I had planned for everything accordingly, but once I turned on the air stone I couldn't believe how much water splashed out. My short term solution was to cover some cardboard with aluminum foil. Each lid will be completely replaced every three days with each transfer. Will the aluminum cause problems over the course of three days?

I wouldn’t see a problem. You have the air stone for o2 and the lid has a gap for the co2 to vent
