I am in the process of moving in the next month to a new house. I am getting a Biocube 32 to use for a temporary aquarium. I currently have a 75g aquarium with 80 lbs. of live rock and about 2"-3" mixture of crushed coral and live sand in the bottom. I will be selling the 75g and after the move will be upgrading to a 120g or 150g tank. My question is to avoid any cycle issues in the Biocube can I just take some of the sand and a couple of the live rocks from the 75g and put it in the Biocube? Also use the water from the 75g or just half and top off with new saltwater?

It is my understanding that you would want as much of the live rock as possible and a really thick substrate base. also re-use all your filter media or bioballs or whatever you’re using. I would be inclined to do a water change, and wait a couple days and then siphon all of the water from the old tank to be used in the new one.
