My elegance has been strange, not coming out all the way. Comes out about half way. It went through swelling up and then going back down. The coral was just barely showing the green flesh, to be on the safe side I did a 3 min. FWD. The coral has come out a bit more. I rearranged the reef so that it resides out of direct light, has mild current. Coral is not eating, but is coming out about the same each day. Hoping that it will get better. I cannot find the tentacles. The coral never seemed to shed the tentacles. Does the coral pull them into the flesh?
Do elegance need more Mg in the water? My water numbers are like the standard except the Ca runs at 500. The tank gets fed live baby brine, copepods, frozen variety of foods. I spot fed my corals a mix of popular foods. I have cut this down to 2x a week. My mystery corals have grown a lot. All corals are open, except the elegance.

These corals go through this stage especially when new. It isn't nothing to worry about and best to leave. They do not like to be shaded either. If there is detritus build up around it then they can also do this. Tentacles will grow back over time. Swelling, shriveling up, tentacle loss is all if it's quirk to adjusting.

The ledge is because a lot information says that they do not like a lot of light. Problem other corals do need light.
Thanks for letting me know it is an adjustment. I started thinking that it was an adjustment.
My water numbers were always good. Our only problem was that the Ca runs high. I am not sure why because I do not dose.

If you look up some of my posts about elegance and even my current build thread, you can see how mine did and other I have owned did the same thing. I have mine currently in direct light up higher. No issues. But also not growing sps either.

How is it now? I have had issues like this, even a couple months after getting elegance. Mainly keep up stable parameters, put the coral in lower flow, and feed if it allows. It should pull through with some consistency.

Well, the red sea tank front panel seams were showing imminent failure. We even had clamps on the tank for a few weeks while preparing some tanks for the corals and fish to live in while we figured out what to do.
Not a good thing for the elegance but it hung on. Almost ready with the new tank....about one week before I could move it. It gave up. It really hung on to life. No flesh left, I have put it in the sump. I have another, it has not lost its tentacles, got it while we were using small tanks. It has done well so far. Elegance coral seems to be very picky. My other corals are all doing well. Just really liked the shape and size of the one that did not make it. I believe they need a lot of acclimation time. Small changes in the setting of the wavemakers will make the elegance unhappy. It takes it longer to adjust. The tank size has now almost doubled, we now have a 180 not a red sea tank, never ever again. We did not lose as much as I was anticipating and the elegance hung on a lot longer than I expected. I though if it could just hang on it would have a chance in the bigger system. Thank you for your concern.
I have had this new elegance since December and it was moved late January. I did not put it in the same tank as the first elegance. I just dropped it in an overfilled with live rock 20 gallon, not much light. It was in a corner and did well. I have placed it in a corner in the large tank. So far it is okay, finally fully out, then I added a cross current flow hygger wavemaker. The elegance is not really getting extra current but the elegance has not come out as much but it has only been a week. Hoping for the best.
The elegance that perished had a cone shape bottom, the new elegance was definitely cut from a larger piece.

Elegance are one of those corals you just leave alone when added, let it have its ugly phase and it'll be fine. Just about every time someone has big issues it is because of putting it underneath shade or detritus build up. Hopefully this one does well for you and sorry for the loss.
