What do you mean by mimicing a river mouth? Sounds interesting
I mean having a few more swings than you may think - I’m talking Nirates, Phosphates, Salinity, Kh, etc.
Over dosing some things, underdosing others.

Also, having food pretty much constantly - cloudy/turbid water is ideal for this (well, not so much for photographs) :)

Yep!!
I have to say they’re definitely my favourites, the amazeballs Goni comes out at number 1, when it’s not sulking due to the tank change, its colour and polyp extension is like no other!

I usually dislike chalices. I think because their pastel colors don't look natural, but yours are actually very nice
Thankyou! I have to agree, the pastels are what make me question a lot of chalices - these weren’t even intentional!
I just had a few frags I wanted to grow out “out of sight” from the shop - that way if we sell the original colony I held back, I have a backup colony I can chop up. I have to say, I don’t have the heart to chop up any of those colonies yet, even though the Miami is definitely due to be cut.

Okay, i need help!
I have an algae issue due to the method I’m using to mimicking the best way corals grow, it’s not huge but I’d like it to be controlled temporarily as the tank is establishing to this method.
IMG_1173.jpeg

So… I was thinking starting out a young tang of some sort in here or a fish to munch algae - as you are likely aware now, I have a shop which can take on these fish if they outgrow the system so it’s not a huge issue for me to rehome - and often fairly easy.
Anyone got any thoughts to what I add?

So I have tomani tang because I have nano size tank. I see him pecking at the rocks and other fishes as well. But what has been establish are not being eaten by them.

So…. Just adding tangs are not going to solve your problems…. It’s simply heavy in heavy out. So try that before using fishes to control algae. Using turf scrubber etc might be better for long run. If you are doing heavy in…. You need heavy out….

So, my aim isn’t to outright remove the algae, it’s to control it whilst the tank is settling and getting used to this method. The algae and bacteria is a vital part of the process of a tank establishing, which is why I am not wanting to eradicate it but instead reduce it from getting onto the corals - hence my thoughts of fish/inverts (Currently Seahares and other algae eating species of inverts are a pain to source so I’m having to go for the fish route for controlling it).

Ive been trying to avoid this update (for around 1 week)…
Unfortunately it’s looking as though my tank has sprung a leak. Possibly through the weight of the rock on the glass, or maybe the silicone failed. I’m not too sure (p.s. it’s a custom made, not Red Sea as I’m sure many of you would likely ask).
Here was the photo from yesterday that unfortunately made me notice the leak properly, now, the issue is that I haven’t got a huge plan for the stock other than either temporary holdings in my other 2 tanks (the 5 foot’s sump specifically) so I can get to the bottom of the tank and hopefully see its just excess water. However, it’s looking more and more like a leak and I well, you can see by the photo below haven’t even got much time to be doing just normal maintenance like algae cleaning.

Unfortunately the shop and my own life (with college specifically) has become hectic and well, it’s left my with this…
Hopefully it will be back up in no time, but if it’s a leak it means we’ve got to find another tank.
I’m not losing hope but it’s becoming more difficult to see three tanks running constantly.

If you want an update on this, it’s still running - I’ve not had time to shut it down and get to the bottom of the tank, and I’m off to Iceland on Thursday (won’t return until Sunday) so I may not even be able to do it until Sunday or next week.

Hmm… do you have any compressed air around? (Can of computer duster/etc) that you can use to blast out the standing water around the bottom of the tank to see if it’s just spilled water?

That might give you some quick peace of mind for your trip!

I did this earlier today, and so far no more water has appeared! So it’s looking like it was just excess water - my next thought is how it gets there (especially as I’ve not done a water change in a while).

Water often leaks down the front of my tank when I get a bit too enthusiastic rearranging things… Have you had arms in the tank lately?

My hands are in that tank more than they should be as when something looks wrong it gets sorted rapidly (especially as these are realistically experimental pieces).

Ah! that may-well explain the standing water!

Hopefully that gives you some peace of mind while you’re away! — enjoy your trip!

Foxface... Mine has a habit of splashing and it puddles on the front lip of the tank.

Finally! An update for this tank :D
I got bored of the thick meshing on the lid, so yesterday I sat and painstakingly redid the mesh to a much finer mesh - and actually, if you catch it at the right angles, you don’t see the black and it just looks like you have the frame with no mesh.
