Been some time since I’ve posted on here, everything is going well! Added a clam this weekend after questioning it for a few weeks. Also, I don’t think I’ve really shown off the lid yet! I replaced the mesh just over a month ago with a much finer mesh for some smaller species of fish that I may eventually stock this tank with.

As you can see, it’s overrun with Cyano and algae currently but the SPS are loving it! I just need something to remove the Aiptasia (as always…).
And, people who keep SPS - what period of white light do you have? Currently at the LFS I have 2 hours of 10-12K, but on this tank I don’t have any and wanted to get your thoughts on how long to have it for.

I run all 4 systems with 1hr up/down and 8 hrs peak.

Aptasia get bergi nudibrach after you use chemiclean for cyano and increase flow.

Update on this tank finally!
Starting with:
I’ve placed the two leopards into the 5 footer now! So it was time for a rescape… I seem to have a scape which mimics all my other ones - very arch-way heavy.
IMG_4915.jpeg

And, after tearing down my 5 footer tank just to get an angel out after he bashed everything (Nailed my YLN Butterfly, Vivien and began to go for some of the others). He now lives in this tank! I don’t intend to add anything else into it yet so he’s happy in here for now.

Oh, and the algae issues are still a thing, they’re a pain too. Think it’s due to having minimal snails currently.

The tank looks nice even if algae is an issue.

Wait until I get the Acros growing again! The aim is to have over hangs and such that I can keep lower light LPS under the Acros.

I like 1 snail per 2 g's minimum.
In my 150 last count was 70 trochus and 10 turbos and several ohers. You won't have algae issue if you do 1 per 2g's.
Now that I removed the Mantis shrimp I dropped in 8 emerald crabs and the bubble algae is minimal and hard to find.
Remove as much by hand and add the trochus and emeralds and they will make you look for algae in order to find it, lol.
There is algae in this pic do you see it? It is a small patch of bryopsis I need to put putty over one day, lol

You should probably devote a tank thread to assist in resolving the issue.

Hey guys, it’s been a while… now, there’s not been anything really bad going on. It’s just getting quite hectic with reefing (especially with having a shop - I’ve found myself neglecting my nanos quite badly recently).

So… I’ve started to think about shutting this tank down temporarily. Mainly because it’s started to get overwhelming and well, in a hobby I love I’d rather stick to it and not burn myself out quite so quickly. I will probably start using this build thread for my 78l (20G) nano instead of my 25G nano.

But if you’ve been wondering why this thread has been so quiet for the last 3 months it’s largely due to neglect on the tank itself.

Hey, there is no shame in recognizing that life has other priorities for you right now and that you don't want your animals to suffer neglect. I had to make that hard decision when my mother in law became confined to bed and required my full time care. I took down a 90g display w/15g sump and a 125g FOWLR with a 75g sump and sold them. My husband did talk me into buying a small tank so I kept a 36g bowfront which I enjoyed for years. It was definitely the right move for that time in my life.

And this week’s update…
We have a shut down tank.
IMG_8625.jpeg

Now, I’m lucky as I still have 2 tanks: my 5 foot 180G tank, and the 20G nano, so I have split everything across the two tanks. And you’d be surprised, for a tank that was strongly neglected, my corals have been thriving! Even my gold maxima clam is loving life still. The growth on him stopped temporarily however it’s starting to recover and regrow!
IMG_9686.jpeg

I don’t think I’ve mentioned in this thread but I believe I did mention it in my 5 foot thread -
I’m currently planning a house move, so this was honestly the perfect time to shut it down. Plus it just means I can start again in a few months.

And well, after looking through this thread seeing how much this tank has gone through, I’ve decided I’ll keep it around. But the question is;
When it’s set back up do I go for a bare-bottom system or a shallow sand bed (like I had before).

Yep! Had everything in citric acid the last few days, today when I get back from the shop I intend to finish the clean and hopefully remove the coralline off the back.
