Was just watching everything going on in my tank. My chalk basslet (a model citizen) was kinda eyeing me so I get closer to look at it. It casually swims to put a sexy shrimp, who is just minding its business on a frag, right between me and it. Then it just inhales the shrimp and swims off like nothing happened… I’m just sitting there kinda stunned that this guy ate a $15 meal and thinking “hey bud do you want the wine menu too?” 😆 The crazy thing is I definitely feed that guy well!

Anyone else have some fun cases of expensive fish food?

Serpent star I had ate a whole poreclain crab and tried to sneak off.....it's body was looking like a brown sheet tossed over a porcelain crab......very subtle!

once got a small blood red fire shrimp that got bashed around by my waspfish ( it couldnt fit in his mouth) so he slammed it into the rocks and sand and just left it there to die, most annoying loss of 30 bucks for me

Ya that’s the thing… super annoying because I enjoy the sexy shrimp and don’t want it to become a thing… but then at the same time it was just so ridiculous how it all happened that it’s hard not to laugh

No doubt.

Also a thing with basslets like that.....I don't know what "bass" means, but it seems like it could mean "shrimp eater". They have that giant mouth compared to their body size.....that's only good for one thing. :)

Perfect gif 😂

Guess how I found out that Centropyga's like clams. I also fed a 20USD cleaner shrimp to my trigger- it was at that moment when I realized, what happened to the previous shrimp.

I’m starting to see. Shrimp and certain fish? No go unless you are wanting to get a snack for one of your fish

More like a $90 meal but I had two cleaning shrimp go missing over a couple of days which I thought was weird but they were a couple years old and bought at the same time so I thought maybe it was their time. I bought a new one and put him in the rocks and immediately my Timor Wrasse went in for the kill. I was able to save him and move him to the sump

Uggg if somebody ate a clam that’d be terrible

Ya I think if I can find the others they might need to go to the clown/nem tank… I just didn’t think a basslet would be the culprit

My sixline wrasse ate all three of my sexy shrimp as well.
See I had always assumed a wrasse might eat them but not a basslet!

Wrasses! Still one of my favorites though!
I think just about any wrasse would be a no go with sexy shrimp.
My pink streak probably wishes it could eat them

Yikes! Like he knew you weren't gonna like it and dared you to do something about it!

Ya… Chalky as he is called by my kids probably knows he’s the family’s favorite. It’s his tank and everyone else is just living in it lol

Yeah I'm not sure who is the culprit, but apparently only 2 specific cleaner shrimp are allowed in my reef. I've tried to do peppermints for aptasia control - eaten. Tried to add an additional cleaner - newcomer was eaten. Tried a blood red for aesthetics - eaten. It's like my fish have come to a random mutual agreement that those specific 2 original cleaners get a pass. Any new guys on the block are ALWAYS on the menu.....

Like I get it... never pass up a free meal! But it's also like I know I overfeed, so it's not as if my fish are ever hungry LOL 🤷‍♂️

Not quite the same but I picked up 6 Sexy Shrimp yesterday for my anemone tank and went to dump out some of the extra water from my container and one went down the sink. 🥺
