Now that I finally have lights on my aquarium, I can share some good photos of my Genicanthus. I currently have two swallowtails (third is coming from Dr. Reef next week) and a Lamarck.

Love the tygerpyge and goldflake.

In sad news my goldflake died for no apparent reason after 2.5 mos. Exhibited no off behaviors and ate great. Really was weird and sad.

Not to mention the time I waited to get it and the cost.

Worse than that was the money lost on the juvenile blueline that simply refused to eat.

Lasted 5 days. Terrible.

Received these from NY Aquatic (click on Video)
Nice! Back in April, I got one of the Juvi Regals from NY Aquatic, too. While in my small QT (Redsea 130D), my 5" Asfur who was also in my QT, decided all of a sudden he didn't like the Regal, and before I could separate them, the Regal was too far gone :-(

I plan on getting another Regal when I finish the current QT for Asfur. I'm a disciple of Jay Hemdal's "Biosecurity" mantra, so all my fish get four weeks of cooper at 2.25 ppm to 2.5 ppm and three treatments of prazi. The total process takes about 76 days when you include the observation windows. It is completely worth it! I would love to upgrade the size of my current QT and find a spot for a secondary QT so I can house multiple fish who would not do well together in a small QT but would be fine in the large DT.

My Goldflake and Emperor.

Amazing & beautiful! I’ll NEED to add a Goldflake one of these days.

You’re very adventurous like me — got a Haddoni in the same tank? Mine ate thousands $$ of fish a few months ago. :(

@kboogie They’re slowing growing eh? What’s an expected maximum size for a Goldflake and a Majestic in captivity? I’ve heard of ones getting to 8-9”, not sure if that’s the norm or maybe they were caught at that size, or put in very large tanks.

Use the maximum size you've documented for the fish as a reference; it's quite useful, IMO. For example, some adult emperor angels I've seen have been smaller due to the tank they were kept in as juveniles, so 120 gallons works for either of those two angels. I bought them as juveniles, by the way.

Goldflakes get to 10" in the wild and in the 7" range in captivity. While Majestics get to 12" in the wild, you will notice most cap out around 9" in captivity, and they take a while to get there.

Speaking generally, I typically only worry about growth rate for groupers and specific species within genera known for rapid growth (e.g., Emperor Angels). Otherwise, we are talking about several years before a concerning size is achieved in captivity.

Emperors are a great example of a rapidly growing angel. They get to a meaningful size within the first 24 to 36 months. A Majestic (another Pomocanthus) would be around 6" in the time, while the emperor will be 10" to 14".
