Edit: safely remove from glass lol. Shame their are not a ton of majanos. I need some pink tip ones and some more green ones.

I second this. If you are new to the hobby starting with dry rock I would wait until you see coralline growing on the rocks if you can grow coralline you can grow stoney corals

Yeah. I’m 3 or 4 years in. This is just my second tank and I’m doing things by the book this time

Cool beans. My first tank the 10 gallon I started with dry rock. Lost a few LPS along the journey. The second tank the 70 gallon I started with well established rock came from a 10 year old system. The difference is day and night

Started my 10g with live rock didn’t like the hitchhikers
40b is with dry rock and I’m loving it. Had a tiny Dino outbreak but they were gone in 2 day. Even with a long photo period

i am actually putting a "killer " piece of fake coral rock into tank tonight ,first time ever,alway been live,she is a dense poly ,retails like 1200$ o_O big though,ment to have fake coral inserts,bought extra of courseo_Oguessin' 30# judge size by 24" log,and 32 gallon brute;):cool:

This is how I do a water change lol.

Stir and baste the crap out of sand and rocks, let run for a while with all pumps turned up ,Shut off return, stir up sump, pump water out to a tote to make it more manageable, them pump remaining through filter socks and stir occasionally. Finally pump water in tote back into tank. Gets rid of detritus lol. The nutrients pumped back in after this leads to awesome PE from the corals lol. So far it works, at least for the 180.

Edit: put macro back in!!!!!! Forgot last time and lost half of it lol.
