I have a RO/DI unit...I think this is just phosphate build up from my tank being older.... :p Kinda sucks to have the gross looking algae, but everything's thriving so as long as I can kill it off it's all good! :)

the "big guy" looks like a terminal male, and if about 5" big, most likely it is a Supermale (aka Terminal male). the other ones on the pic look like they are transitioning to being a male. "female" HI Flames are notorious in turning into males in our tanks. when I had HI Flames, I started out with 2 small females since I wanted to see one transition to male but as soon as one started transitioning, the other also started. so I ended up with two males and they flashed each other, switching spots on which one would dominate the other. they co existed fine with just the occasional chasing. I had a Supermale Lineatus that ruled the tank and would anyone in their place if he notice the chasing getting too much. so in a way, I think this is how the two male HI flames co existed.

anyway, good luck with them as they are truly one of the best fairy wrasses in the hobby. :bigsmile:

Very well. I lost the first male. He would never eat anything but the second male and the female are doing just great. Such a beautiful fish!

I have to disagree on the sub-male. It is a common misconception with "Adult Females". There are two stages of females. Juvenile females, which are usually really small and all pink. Not so much yellow. The adult females will be pink to red in coloration but will show some yellow in the face.

There is a really good article written by T.Vargas. Aquarium Fish: Spawning Cirrhilabrus jordani — Advanced Aquarist | Aquarist Magazine and Blog Believe it or not, he has spawned them in a biocube. :)

I haven't gotten a chance to read the article, but my females are certainly completely pink in coloration (with little flecks of yellow) while the male is almost completely yellow with a stripe of red. :)

Thanks for the read Kevin. I was going with what I have experienced in my own tank. I only kept my HI flames for less than 2 yrs. I will post some pics of them "flashing" each other in a bit. You can tell me if both are males or if one is subordinate female. The article did say that a male can revert back to female so maybe if my Flames worked things out, one would've stayed or reverted back to female. :)

Just wanted to updated and say that they are all eating great!
They've eaten both flakes and frozen foods today! :D
Annnd here's a pic... For some reason this one's sideways too! (I think it's because my friend was taking these with her ipod... anyway there they all are hanging out eating :p )

LOL sorry for the second pic...IDK why that posted and I can't edit it :mad2: I was trying to get a picture of the tank to get a view of the algae.... As you can tell it's still not too good, but better... (mostly along the sand now)

Well some kinda bad news... The flames have come down with a bit of ick. I cleaned the tank yesterday and they seemed to all be cleared up this morning, but later today the male had more little dots covering him, so I did another slight water change. They don't seem to be in bad health, everything's normal other than the little spots, but I hope it clears up soon. I'm leaving tomorrow because of some family stuff that needs to be attended to, so if anyone has any suggestions as to what I should do before I leave please let me know. They're still eating great and behavior is normal. I'm also a little confused as to why they have the ick now...any ideas?

Alright, thanks for the reply! I'll see if I can get some before I go. Could I just crush some garlic or does it need to be store bought juice?

I ended up going ahead and just crushing up some garlic and mixing it with some of their food. I hope it helps them a little, but I'm not going to be there to see the results :(
It always seems like my fish get some sort of illness right before I leave...

I treated 3 of my flame wrasse with 2 weeks of cupramine, and they took the full dose very well.
