Does anyone know if a puddingwife wrasse sleeps in the sand? I bought him off a friend. I already have a Christmas and Yellow Coris that sleep in the sand, so I was just wondering.

They get large and I think aggressive

Thanks for the condolences everyone. That was the most expensive I've ever lost so far, considering I even got a decent price for it (175). On to new and exciting things. I'm down to just my 4 wrasses. Female pintail, ruby head, leopard, and social. My buddy has a male pintail in right now. Would I be good to add him? He's not a lot bigger than my female. Would they pair up? If I had a pair, I'd want a pair of isosceles the most I believe. Am I safe to pull the trigger? Input wrasse pros!

Wrasses don't form bonded prs. Instead, gender roles are determined by social qeues, namely aggression and displays. A 40g doesn't allow enough space and cover for the female to escape the male's attention.

Also, female fairy wrasses tend to transition to males, and aggression between males often leads to the demise of one in aquaria..

@eatbreakfast, would a mystery white bar wrasse mix well with what I have in my tank? I'm aware of snail eating, but are they usually aggressive as the eight and six lines? I've always found them very pretty, but is the aggression usually bad towards fairies?

They get more aggressive the longer they are in a tank. The aggression can get particularly bad toward other wrasses. Being a close relative of six and eightline wrasses, their behavior will be very similar.

Yes it will sleep in the sand. Halichoeres wrasses sleep in the sand.

Correct. It's a matter of genus, and Halichoeres sleep in the sand.

Thanks guys. How about a c. roseafascia? Are they in the same "group" as the isosceles? I know they are closely related to the lancelus (probably misspelled that last one).

One of the biggest of the genus; definitely too big for a 40.
They are in the jordani group, along with lanceolatus.
isosceles is in the lunatus group.

OK last one guys. What's the opinions on a pseudojuloides severnsi? I've read picky eaters that usually die in 2 months, also have seen success stories.

I skipped out on the pencil as well. Very pretty fish though! Just picked up a tiny little black leopard instead. May add a possum down the road, a little more size appropriate.

I would not put a flasher in a tank less than 3' in length I'm afraid.

Thanks, she is a cutie! She's been in the holding tank about 2 weeks (with copper). I never noticed it and go there often! She swam around and kept laying on the sand. Kinda has me worried. She's real skinny. I think she finally made her way into the sand for the night. Really hope to see her swimming around tomorrow.

Some fairies would work though. The rubriventralis group of fairy wrasses are kinda similar to flashers with the filament on their fins. My social flashes a little as well.

Thanks, I knew I was limited I had a big mixed group in my 300 but I've downsized. I'll skip the flashers
