The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

New to the system, so no longer term report. Is doing as well as could be possibly expected so far.

I added a new video to the build thread from this morning (I'll post it here too).

He's learned to take freeze dried mysis from the automatic feeder. Continues to eat frozen aggressively and will take pellets too. Seems happy, actively browsing the rocks and sand, no compatibility issues with any of the other fish in the system. A healthy happy fish so far.
I really like that Goldflake btw.

Wow! Two radiants. I was going to ask who they get along until the last second of that video:)

I got them both as juveniles, and one developed into a male. The male occasionally will get a little aggressive toward the female. She'll end up with some scratches, but the aggression isn't sustained long term and generally they get along and go about their business.

The tank is 84 x 34 x 27 about 330 gallons and she has space to evade him when he's getting more aggressive. Interestingly, the last second of the video the female is the aggressor. I hadn't noticed that until you pointed it out, and not something that I've observed in the system.

Here's a video of the system, you can see the general demeanor of the radiants toward each other.

Any specific order to adding them?
All are fairly peaceful, and any way you add them should be OK. Maybe the melagris last as they tend to be a bit grumpy when being the first added.

I cannot stress enough the use of an acclimation box when introducing new wrasses to already established wrasses.

Nice tank! And I see a choati in there! So jelous.

Ok my wife, AKA the CFO, has Oked me to spend up to $400 on a new fish for x-mas. I'm 100% on the lookout for a choati now. Most certainly won't be an x-mas present, but I will be getting one at some point in the not to distant future.

Do you have a close up of the female too? It’s been a while since I’ve seen a properly matured female :)

You think maybe instead of getting the melasmapomus I should get the Iridis? Yours is a stunner!

Well if you say that you already know about TSA lol.

It’s always been between those two for the prettiest “salt pig” for me.

Unless you turn the vibrance setting all the way up on a melanarus haha!

Thank you! I support that decision! I hope I played a role in swaying the CFO.

Here are some photos from this morning. She's more slender, lacking some of the secondary characteristics on her head in terms of shape. Colors are more muted as well in terms of the orange striping and green.

So how could I ensure I get a male? Or can I just get a female and wait for it to transation?

I can see someone’s tail right under the iridis.
My Lineatus’ tail :)
I swear I don’t usually like the blennies but this guy is making me reconsider that choice now it’s in the right reef.

I have honestly seen a Melanurus look like that but it was a once in a lifetime thing - I nearly got him but this was when I had a tank with 13ish fish.
