The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

I just want to let everyone know the Kuiter’s from reef pro didn’t make it shipping was to much for her. Reef pro saw a post here and reached out they will send a replacement but we are waiting so it will be a little bit.
I am speechless that reef pro is being so generous and this is why I will buy fish from them. They care about the fish and customers. The fish is the most important part as we will all be ok.
Thank you team @Reef Pro

Once the next semester rolls around (Mid-May) I'm going to grab another lineatus from them. Maybe have to snag one or 2 other fish as well. Would be nice if they have a lineatus and a cebu pylei fairy both around that time (hint hint @Reef Pro ) :)

Awesome! So hard getting what we want when we want it lol.

I've been thinking about naming it keylime.
Thank you for the heads up about aggression. I'll keep an eye out for it. As of now all 3 wrasses get along great.
“Unnamed green wrasse”
You should rename it to something like the green beast, it’s actually a Halichoeres chloropterus (same as what I have) but juvenile. Be warned aggression comes with age and they’re only nice as juveniles.

I love my 4 inch guy though! Wish he transitioned quicker but guess not every wish comes true haha.
I’ll get some photos of him later since he isn’t out right now.

The Hulk :D
This is very true haha, I’m confused at the moment with what colour mine will end up as eventually. So far he’s looking like it’ll be something like this

I mean, I won’t complain if he does turn out to look somewhat like that. That’s a beautiful specimen.

Well went for the 9 hour round trip to the LFS yesterday.....

They still had the moyers leopard that was there 6 months ago, guess who's in my tank now? It certainly was not a cheap specimen @ $160, but well worth the price!

I was actually talking to the owner as he was trying to find the moyers, he thought the moyers was dead a year ago! The have an invert room that has those little acrylic interconnected trough style tanks for their inverts. Each compartment has slits in the dividers, and the moyers is small enough to fit through the slits, they hadn't seen it, so they thought it died. Then one day he was digging for snails for a customer, and the moyers popped out of the sand. So she's a nice healthy specimen thats fat on copepods.

After we got home last night and I did the float for temp thing for 20 minutes, dumped the moyers in, and this is the first leopard I have ever owned that did not dive directly into the sand when introduced. She actually stayed out for about an hour before hitting the sand when the lights went out.

In his coral tank, he had a beautiful kuiter's, and we got talking about other leopards(apparently his love for leopards is just as strong as mine), and I mentioned I was looking for a chaoti. He proceeds to tell me has has never had a chaoti survive shipping, but if he see's one on his suppliers fish list, he will order me one and let me know. Maybe in 6 months or so I may be the proud poppa of a chaoti(my holy grail leopard).

Not the best pics as she is still in the bag, but a nice healthy, fat, unafraid, moyers. Now I typically ask for sand sleeping wrasses to be sent home with some sand in their bags, but with this specimen being so boisterous I was not worried about it making the 4 1/2 hour trip.

FWIW, I really trust this LFS, and the owner! This is the one place I have been to, and held a conversation with the owner, and they actually knew what they are talking about! This is the typoe of place thats a small LFS, but has quality livestock(think 90% of my tank has been stocked with fish from there). He has been in business since the early 70's, and definitely knows his ISHT!

Those are the best kinds and always worth the extra $$$ to support expect service and help!

How do you know it’s a female and not a male just wondering, I’ve never seen females and see what I always think are males which is why I’d like to know.

It was my understanding that all leopard were born female, and transition to male? So I was just assuming it was a female. I honestly have no idea if there is a difference between male and female moyers? Doesn't seem to be google has any help there either.

Emergency here
my bipartitus doesn't have a good looking. it swim, sometimes, but most of the time it sit on the bottom.

can i do something other than placing in a QT like i did?

1 month i think, maybe a little bit more or less

yes, It was eating, not like a chromis, but it was eating

Only time I've had a leopard do this was when she hit the bottom of the tank, and broke her jaw/beak. She just slept on her side, never dug into the sand like their supposed to, barely swimming, and eventually just wasted away from not being able to eat.

Mine acted just like what your describing after she broke her jaw/beak. Not saying that is your problem, just how mine acted after breaking her jaw/beak.

Mine lived about a month before I finally took her out, and put her out of her misery. On mine you could actually see her jaw was misaligned. She would take food in, but just spit it back out(couldn't chew was my guess).

I still think she looks very thin, and probably hasn't eaten in a while. Have you tried any live food? Such as black or white worms, live copepods, live brine(not very nutritious, but serves as gut wadding for finicky fish)etc?

At this point(laying on her side, not swimming much, etc) it may be too far gone to even get to try and eat. This is the main reason these fish are labeled "expert only", for their eating habits. If and when you get them to eat prepared foods, they are just as easy as any other fish.

I typically like to see a fish eat(specially leopard wrasses) at the LFS before I purchase. I've never run across an LFS that wouldn't feed a fish to let me see it eat, if they want to make the sale.

It was eating dry food for sure, because i feed fishes manually every time and was eating. Not as much as a chromis, it was much more shy but was eating for sure.
