The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

I have no problem with the Naoko. Outgoing and get along with everybody. I did not see him bully any other wrasse, but my tank is large, 320 gal.

I’m not talking about the Naoko doing the bullying, I have an issue where neither of two Naokos could make it into the second day in my tank.

So sorry I keep asking, but what is this fish?

Beautiful fish. I am sure others are wondering the same thing.

That is my Diamondtail Flasher pair, Paracheilinus attenuatus. You can see the female in the second picture.

That’s what it is?? I’ve never seen one in person, but I thought they were more orange. Like the liveaquaria pic:

I’ve actually been trying to get one myself (!), for a couple months. I think I finally have a line on one. Do you recommend I go for a pair, in order to induce more flasherizing?

And while I have you, what do you use for your pictures? You have some great fish shots!

These fish come from deeper reef with less light. When they adapted to higher reef light environment, they darken. I think they keep their lighter color tone when keep under low light. My friend’s fish

I'm tempted to try again with the naoko, but it's getting depressing. Do you know what the flasher is above? I think I want one.
It’s a Paracheilinus attenuatus- If you don’t manage to keep your Naokoae alive then I personally wouldn’t do a Paracheilinus species as these are bad when it comes to aggression. They aren’t aggressive but they really don’t like aggression. These also need 4’ tanks as a bare minimum, a flasher swims much more than any fairy does IME.

Beautiful! Which wrasse is that?

And while I have you wrasstasmagoric people - any tips on keeping Naoko fairy wrasses? I’ve tried to introduce one to my tank, on two occasions. Both made it through QT, but there was no sign of them the morning after I introduced them to my display. Abducted by aliens both times. The other wrasses I have are a melanurus and yellow coris. I also have a large black capped basslet that I suspect sent an orchid dottyback to the aliens. Other than that, the only aggressive fish I have are some tangs. Are Naokos sensitive to chemistry changes? The temp and salinity between my QT and display matched, but I didn’t bother to drip acclimate…
I have a Naoko as well. Got him pre-quarantined from TSM. Started eating within 5 minutes in the new tank. Added him with three other wrasses (Social fairy, Blue throated fairy, and Solar wrasse). Came in water at 1.025, my tank was at 1.026. 30 minute acclimation and into the tank he went. Had his tail bitten off by a Midas blenny, went into hiding for 3 days. Then out and about and hasn't hid in the past year. Still bullies and flashes at an Exquisite wrasse twice his size, but not very aggressive. By far one of my favorite fish in my tank. My tank is 525 gallons BTW.

Guess who have been extra photogenic tonight! Still getting more photos however all 3 have been extremely photogenic.

Some more of the pinkies from tonight!! All 3 are still with me and all 3 eat everything I feed. They’re still rather small, if I had to compare them to an object then about a 1 pound coin which is around 0.8 inches.

How’s she behaving for you? Not too tricky?
Not tricky thus far, but its early in the game. She hid last night after acclimation and was out and about when the lights came on this morning. Super active and not too shy.

Why, are they suppose to be tricky?

I guess an 1K wrasse that does not always eat qualify as a trickly fish. Congratulation on your exceptional fish. Hope she will eat and do well for you.

They tend to be riddled with parasites, don’t acclimate well, rarely eat ect…
