I meant to take general pictures of my tank but got distracted by a certain fish.

That is a marisirubri and also I will agree it appears to be a transitional male, there seems to be a tint of green towards the back of the head in the second photo.

Did you guys know that this dapped 39.99 fish at Petco have the potential to be this beautiful Super Male?
However Max size of 10 inches is a bit much for my tank.
Only the first picture is mine. The other two from the …net.

Halichoeres hortulanus ‘supermales’ are stunning, we had one come into the LFS when I was working there. The downside is their behaviour. They’ve got stunning colours but their behaviour isn’t quite so stunning.

Although I won’t ‘hide it’, even I took the gamble on a stunning wrasse (so far I have yet to regret it).

Jades have the potential to get to a similar size although most seem to max out around 6 inches in captivity (I don’t think many make it over 7 inches).

You do have Hortulanus? How big is he and have he change color yet. If yes, what size when he changed color?
I am thinking of going to get him.

I'd estimate my quoy's parrotfish is probably close to 7" and I don't think he's going to get much larger (I took a ruler out to measure him and he was less than impressed!) The melanarus and christmas wrasse are probably closer to 4.75"-5" and nowhere near as "chunky". :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

My LFS has a pair of male/female sailfin wrasses that are really tempting (especially since they seem to be a close item).

Wrasses generally don't do well in quarantine (or at least I've found anyway).

I was OK with everything but those...

I'm planning on doing a species on tank for a tank bred one, so no real need for any hardcore QT. Probably just Prazi. We'll see...

They're also vicious. That's my nightmare fish. Hope you have better luck then me.

Saying that that supermale is ridiculously beautiful.

I unfortunately don’t have one however I do have a Jade Wrasse which are on a similar level of aggression.
The ‘supermale’ hortulanus we had arrive in the LFS was a good 8-9 inches and some of the smaller females were around 4-6 inches when they transitioned.

I have a large tank. I think I will pick her up if I go by Petco and she is still there. She is very tiny right now. Only about 1.75 inch +/- .25. I hope to have a very striking color wrasse in a few years

By "Sailfin Wrasse" Do you mean this wrasse? (C. cyanogularis, The Bluethroat Fairy wrasse) This is a more aggressive of the fairly wrasses, but hardly a terror in a (large) tank. In my 320, he is a perfect and striking wrasse. No color loss either.
there are few fish as bright and showy like this one. He is bold and display all the time too.

Yes, that's the one! They have a male/female pair at my LFS.

Be really careful. Once you see some color changes, she is well on her way to be a he.
Seeing how he interacts with his reflection, I think the only way you can have two males of this wrasse in a tank is one of the two must be dead.

LFS has offered me a pair of Cirrhilabrus rosefacia. Don't know that I have space but the LFS was talking them up like they were pretty special?

I thought those can be mildly aggressive. I still don't understand why lfs and some vendors are fixated on cirrhilabrus "pairs". They don't exist like this in nature and will eventually fight.

Thanks I was wondering why I rarely hear of people keeping wrasse in pairs.
