I assumed it’s simply because they look mysterious. I could get behind that. They have very odd faces. Almost look Aztec. I propose Pseudocheilinus aztecius

There was another one that I can't remember anything about it other than it had a bright white nose. Not sure if it was a natural coloration or some kind of wound.

I’m sure it’s not the one your thinking of but I’ve seen a few Mystery’s with white noses

There was a really cute one with a pretty pale pink body and cute yellow face at my LFS today. I tried to ask @Crabby48 but he wasn't any help, he was distracted.
Just curious about the origin of the name. I'm a nerd too.

I always thought it was due to this species seemingly being more secretive than others in that genus, so it’s kind of a mystery if they’re alive or not.

I tried to place it in the “friend zone” acclimation box but it jumped out before I could put the lid on. It didn’t run and hide whatsoever and is just out hanging out with the other fish. Never had a fish do this, they always hide for at least a little.

Just woofed down 5 or 6 mysis and some ROE. Weird seeing it so comfortable, but I guess that is a good thing :)

Exquisitus is a species I’d love but I only ever see the Vanuatu variant around now. It used to be this variant was the rarest of them all and you’d pay a nice dime for them now they’re around in most stores.

I agree with you having an African Variant of Exquisite which is beautiful when it colours up.
