The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

I have several RFAs and I doubt a wrasse would let that happen. They are just asleep not comatose under there. I’ve tried to catch a sleeping wrasse and failed as they are still aware and fast.

Wrasses that sleep in the sand do not dive into the sand like we dive into water. They cannot hit the rock in injure themselves. What they actually do is vibrate their body really fast. This part the sand and they slip into it. They swim around and choose the right place and gently "vibrate" into the correct place. It is really neat to see sand sleeper wrasses vibrate into place. it looks like magic. Like Jesus parting the Red Sea.

Well, got my orangeback fairy wrasse Saturday and while he's beautiful, I have only seen him a couple times since the first day. The much larger rosy scale and melanurus won't stop chasing him the second they see him. :( Rosy scale was flaring his fins like crazy which admittedly was cool to see, lol. I feel bad for the newcomer though... I did keep him in an acclimation box at first and both wrasses saw him and didn't really react, so I chanced releasing him. Now he's just hiding... but I did see him come out this morning and eat a little, before being spotted by the mel and chased back into hiding. I figured there would be a little establishing of dominance between the fairies, but the mel chasing him surprised me. Hopefully they calm down soon! :/
(Also, still have yet to see the pearly wrasse I got a week ago come out of the sand... fingers crossed she's ok!)

You can put a large mirror on the tank now to get him some reprieve.
Normally I put a large mirror on my tank to get all the fish excited and flashing several times a week. I think a little territorial dispute is natural and healthy for the fish. Get their testosterone going. I know it help to keep the colors of my fish top notch.

It is only natural that the fish have to defend their territory.

Fish jerky in the form of an exquisite fairy wrasse was laying on my floor.

I'm not recommending this fish to most but if you have a predator tank or considering a species only tank you should definitely consider a dragon wrasse! Look at this gal! She's always doing something even if its chilling on a rock like a blenny!

Theyre beautiful animals and I’d love one. You’re just missing the final wrasse to throw in the mix ;)

If you can’t tell, these are old photos as my tanks are currently in night mode and the creepy crawlies are out instead of the fish. Tomorrow I’ll definitely get a few photos of this boy though :)

I believe Slocke has a maturing female Dragon - Males are incredibly demonic looking. (Not my photo - I’d love to see them in the wild though).

Why would you get a 10+ footer for a demonic fish?

So far absolutely no aggression. But rumour is when they hit adulthood they can be bad.
