Nigricans and glaucopareius (I never know which is the accepted name but I think both are used) are the same species but let’s make this even more complicated;
Over here we called the Goldrim Tang Acanthurus japonicus
And the Powder Grey Tang is Acanthurus nigricans/glaucopareius x leucosternon
Acanthurus nigricans/glaucopareius is called the Powder Brown Tang

why can’t we just label them all ‘Jerks’ and leave A. nigricans as ‘Pretty tang’.

That’s what I think I saw. Leucosternon: white chest. These are interesting terms. Glaucopareius is the grey lion I believe. In advanced glaucoma the pupil has a hazy light gray tinge. Pareius is the lion statue in an ancient greek port?

So this guy as been in the DT for about a week now. Doing well getting along with everyone. He ate flake on the first day! I normally feed flake, pellets and a variety of frozen foods throughout the day. He is not a picky eater. I thought he would be trying to find some critters in the reef, but no... He realized how good it was right away!

These guys don’t naturally hunt for prey in the rocks and instead feed on Phytoplankton and other microalgae in the water column.

Get the wrong beautiful fish (on purpose) sell it to the LFS, get money/credit, complain to seller, get a new wrasse “free”, possibly get higher compensation, BOOM your set and with money/credit for new wrasse :smiling-face-with-sunglasses:

It's nigricans according to the WoRMS but I'm not sure how seriously people stick to that

PSA - be careful ordering a melanurus wrasse from Dr. Reef right now... so far two people on here have received a lunare wrasse instead of a melanurus :eek:

I think I’m the latest example of a person receiving the wrong fish from Dr. Reef.…..

A model citizen… so far.

Shame on me for putting him in the tank…. I even had him in qt for two weeks!!

I'm thinking its a case of someone besides Mike (Dr. Reef) packing the fish.

Remember were the fish aficionados, lol. The rest of the world say oh, pretty fish, lol.

Man I miss my pintail.

I got tired of them entering the Apollo program. They need the most peaceful tank! Also the price kept going up as covid drifted along as they were popular as hell here in CA. I went through 3 in about 20 months. Lost all of them to jumping out.

I've lost all of mine to jumping, too. One of the most jumpy fairies. Because of them and earl's fairy wrasses I'm shell shocked every time I take the lid off for maintenance lol

I was very scared of that yesterday when I had my heater mishap and took the lids off to cool. Still 87F and nothing in my tank looks worse for ware. Very lucky.

Nope. Accidentally pulled the temperature sensor out of the sump when doing maintenance. Not my best moment.

Saw your thread, did you figure out what caused the temp spike?

Crazy part is that I lost two through a canopy, one before the euro brace and one after. Also canopy is partially enclosed with plexi on the back. There is only a 2" opening at either end. Both in the 120g ended up on the floor!

The cube was flat out my fault. No lid, I figured with a coral beauty, citron goby and pink skunk it would be no issues. It leaped out.
