The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

I wonder about the pricing on a lot of these wrasses. Has to do with scarcity or mostly by looks? E.g., why is Cirrhilabrus earlei so expensive? Does it look that much better than lineatus, or any other Cirrhilabrus for that matter?

Agreed its mostly due to the country of origin, collection difficulties like dpeth, or just general scarcity. Though i'm sure demand plays its part.

+1 to all of this.
The main one is Depth and scarcity whilst a backup is the demand for them. Earlei isn’t really looked for as few people know about them in the hobby (If you think of it, Wrasse lovers are mostly the same people reoccurring whilst tang lovers are very varied). And even then, out of those few people that love wrasse even fewer probably know about earlei or shutmani and even I come across a new species - I didn’t know about Coris elegans until a few months after Hawaii shut and my newest species I learnt existed was Bodianus masudai (Which I think Sanguineus is much nicer).

Totally out of left field here, but while I'm waiting to be done working for the day I've been looking at all types of pretty wrasses.
Why do I not see Anampses twistii around anywhere??
What a gorgeous fish.
From all the reading I've done, they're up there in the difficulty level b/c of difficulty getting them to eat?

I see them fairly often and I believe you can get one from WWC but it doesn’t do it for me. I’d get a Pearl/neoguinaicus over it.

So I’ve been thinking of trying to squeeze one more wrasse into my 3 foot x 2 foot shallow reef. I have the Mealanurus and Red Velvet at the moment. I also have clowns(2), 2 bangaii, , an orange spotted Blenny and a Mandarin dragonet. Options? @i cant think @Slocke @OrionN ?
This the tank in question. It has a lot of rocks and such for hideyholes.

@i cant think must have fallen asleep while answering. It is a little difficult because the velvet is a little aggressive for fairies. A leopard or maybe a small halichoeres. Any leopard will do and my favorite Halichoeres are radiant, dusky, yellow, or redhead.

Also a pink streak or gold nugget would work.

How long do you find your wrasses hide for after they try to jump out? My Mccoskers has been hiding for a few days now, came out last night but the exquisite was being a real jerk and chasing him around and I’m not sure why. Before he tried to jump out the exquisite knew his place but I guess the exquisite is trying to climb up the ladder.

My pintail tried to jump multiple times and I think one time he did some serious damage. I’m lucky if I see him 2-3 times a week and doesn’t come out for long, really sucks because they are gorgeous fish. He’s still fat and no one bothers him when he shows, but doesn’t come out much

@Slocke Thanks ! I’ve been thinking about a leopard. They’re so striking color wise.
