Great fish if you have the tank for it! I wouldn't mind one for my big FOWLR, just have to find one big enough to avoid being eaten by the fimbriated moray. Don't want to put one in my other tank since I'll have some inverts in there.
Seems like it, there isn't too much info about them out there and they seem a bit rare. Definitely wouldn't want the moray to get a hold of it.
They're an atlantic fish, so unfortunately not as common in the hobby. Basically the same care as a red coris or any of the other larger sand sleeping wrasses in the hobby.
If I’m honest, it looks like you’ve got 2 male Exquisites. A female exquisite is much redder (more of a deep purple than red or green).
That was my next guess was a Scarus species. And S. niger is stunning at maturity. I’ve only seen 1 in person and it was a fairly nice sized adult, it made me question how nice a quoyi parrot actually is.
Thank you, I really hope that isn’t the case. They were sold to me a pair. I have a 135 gallon tank (3’x3’x2’), I assume that’s not going to be big enough for 2 males. I’ll try to get a better picture of what I think the female is. There is color difference between the 2 of them and that picture makes her colors look very pale.
He is not a rare wrasse, but a male one is difficult to come by.
Rare or not it has a very unique look!
Did you have any bryopsis?Horrible pictures, but look how much algae this swarthy parrot (Scarus niger) has cleaned off the rocks in just a couple days. Half the rockwork is white now... She even eats the red fuzzy stuff that even the urchins wouldn't touch.
Not in this tank. The french angel ate it.
