Hey guys, i picked up an ibc from a tank shutdown yesterday and was given a whole heap of stuff for basicaly nothing. Some of the stuff i know about but i was given 2 protein skimmers that im not sure about. One is a large reef octopus (not sure what model has some pattern engraved on the lid) and the other one is an aquamedic turboflotor 1000. Are these any good? Any input appreciated. Thanks

Yes fine, but do they both work?

The turboflotor is old-school, but it works pretty well if you set it up right. (Like all skimmers!) :)

Yes both working order. I already have an aqua 1 skimmer that people keep telling me is no good but has worked really well since i started 5 months ago ( although i have a very small bioload atm). He also had a marine sources cs6530 that he said i could have for $20 when shutdown is complete. Those any good too? Lol

Well....if you have a working skimmer, then I'm not sure what you're looking for. Are you collecting skimmers? (I'm guilty.)

If you're not collecting skimmers, then just rock and roll with what's skimming your tank right now. Leave the deals for someone who needs a skimmer! ;)

The job of a skimmer is pretty basic, so I typically judge skimmers more by how easy they are to live with.

Get (and keep) the one that you can clean the quickest and easiest.
