The wife and I have been planning for a while and today we broke ground for the move in of our 12’x20’ building. It’s a Derksen building with upgraded flooring. 2x6” joists 12” on center with 3/4” ply. It’s got the “Z” metal exterior upgrade (metal skin instead of the urethane coating). It has a 36” walk thru door and a 3’x3’ double pain window. Also has the electrical package installed. 100amp breaker panel, 2-4’ fluorescent fixtures, and 8 wall sockets.

This building will not only be a fish room but a room for the wife’s hobby as well (hydroponics).
I’ll get the concrete poured on Monday unless the weather stalls us. In this building I plan on keeping a QT, mixing station, mini fridge/freezer for beer and frozen food, and clownfish barracks to see if I can tinker with raising them. I have a 120 fish only DT in the house that is fully stocked and this is my expansion because “I want more”!!!

I am not much into coral but I do like some LPS and plan on having a small invert/coral QT and may tinker with a nano/pico reef as well. Options are endless until I run out of space.

Here are some picks of what is going on so far.
Piers are 2’x2’x2’ and there are 20 of them. 5 per 4x6” skid that will make the pier and beam foundation.

When this planning started I was thinking about doing a 300 gallon Rubbermaid shark pond. The foundation and upgraded floor are being built with this possibility in mind. Whatever the weight this building will be fine.

Here is a link to the build thread if my 120 DT if anyone is interested in checking it out.

Rain delay. Mother Nature has really dumped the water on us today with a 24 hour rain total of 3.9 inches so far. Concrete pour has been rescheduled for Friday if we can dry out.

Made a trip to Amarillo to check out the building and set up a delivery date. Will be delivered June 21st unless they have an opening next week (possibly Wednesday).
Not a good pic because the buildings at the manufacturer were close together.

Getting a building today!! Yesterday I ripped the old rotten back fence down and cut the metal posts so the building can be moved into place.

A little side story for anyone that wants to read:

Dropped the kids off at daycare this morning and had some time before the building was scheduled to arrive so a small side project was in order.

I sold my 21.5’ 1984 Bayliner cuddly cabin last weekend and have ordered my new boat and outboard motor. I’m getting g a 12’ inflatable boat and a mercury 3.5hp outboard. Much easier for me to manage when I go fishing solo.
The motor should be here on Wednesday so I needed a stand for it to break it in and also to use for storing when not in use. Had some wood in the garage so I bought some casters and some screws and off I went.

About an hour of cutting and assembling here is what I have:

More updates on the building to come in a little while with pics of the building being moved in. Then it time to rebuild a fence! *frown*

What an exhausting day!! Just got out of the shower after a day of fence building. Thursday I ripped the old fence out, yesterday had the building delivered and started cutting 2x4’s and getting all the brackets adjusted and tightened, and today it’s all finished!! Next I’ve got to trench for the electrical.

Looks really good! Will you be running a chiller, AC in the building, or not needed?
I’ve got a ductless mini split with heat pump. 12,000btu cooling. It’s sitting in the garage waiting for me to get the electrical done and the insulation and drywall.

I ordered the building with an electrical package and when it got here it was so basic that I was not feeling it. It only had 2 circuits and had the 2-4’ light fixtures and 8-plain outlets all tied to a 20 amp breaker leaving 1 empty slot that wouldn’t even allow for my 220v AC unit.

So what to do? Well it was time for an electrical upgrade! Wish now I would have saved on the electrical package but you live and learn. I added 2 more outlets for a total of 10 inside (all upgraded to GFCI 20amp). Also re wired the building to a new much larger breaker panel and made all outlets and lights dedicated circuits (1 outlet per 20 amp breaker). Added wiring for an outdoor plug also (still need to cut out the wall and install the box and GFCI for it.

After doing this I am much happier and now this building will be able to supply all the power needed.

Here is what we have now!

The little breaker box didn’t go to waste. Since I was having to trench my back yard to run power to the new building I decided to also add power to my other shed. Ended up trenching about 65 feet. I will have a 4’ light and a single outlet in there running off the tiny breaker box.

Bought insulation yesterday evening and got started this morning getting it put in. Ran out of staples but got a decent amount done. This is my first time with insulation and think I’ve done pretty good.

I haven’t made any progress on the building since a week ago today. Wife was covering a different shift last week and it threw everyone’s schedule out of wack. Last thing I did was make a step/platform at the entrance of the building. I still need to make another step up to this since it’s a little high at 11&1/4”.

Here’s a bonus of a couple pics of my 120 DT taken from my Wyze camera a little earlier this evening.

Following along with you on this project.
Nice progression this far.

What WYZE camera are you using in your home? I've been wanting to get one just so many options.
