Just wondering if the surface skimmer on the tidal 110 hob actually works or not? Im running an aquaclear 110 hob on a 40g breeder which works but does not do any surface skimming. Just wondering if the tidal would be a worthwhile upgrade. The addition of the surface skimmer is all I'm really looking for. Im not interested in a hob protein skimmer. TIA

buy and attach this to the aquaclear...works like a champ.

I have a tidal 75, I see water going into the teeth, but not sure what it does exactly or how effective it is. The teeth are in the same place that water exits from the tidal, so it agitates the water in that spot, making it hard to determine how much surface skimming is happening. I also have a hob skimmer on this tank, further masking any benefits of surface skimming. So I honestly don't know....

Yes, the Tidal skimmers work. I have a 75 I use on a QT. You can adjust it so it pulls more water from the skimmer, or more from the lift tube. But... have you looked into this?https://oceanboxdesigns.com/product/aquaclear-ac110-surface-skimmer/
I don't have one myself, but I thought about it.
Thanks. Never seen that before but it gives me an idea. I have this old hob overflow and plenty of old magnetic scrapers so I think I'll see if i can rig something up. The tank is in the basement so looks are not important

Sweet! That should work!

Hey @ScottJ I just wanted to send out a big thanks for the idea you linked above. Its working pretty awesome. In addition to skimming the flow is much stronger without the extension tube on the 110.

That's fantastic, love it! Looks like it works great!

Believe it or not, your post you made my day. Much appreciated!
