I recently set the tank up and am having trouble setting it so the film on the surface is skimmed off through the weirs. I've adjusted the return pump so the water level in the tank is barely above the bottom of the weirs and set it a little higher. It'll skim the film for a few seconds then stops. I've removed everything from the overflow sections so there's nothing blocking or preventing water from draining properly. Anyone else run into the issue and get it fixed? Could it be that I need to turn the return pump up higher and raise the level of the water in the tank?

Where's the water line inside the overflow? It needs to be lower than the water level outside the overflow. I usually target at least a 2" drop from tank side to inside the overflow.

Hey Tim! Long time no talk. This is an all in one. The first baffle after the overflow chamber keeps the water level about 1/2" below the bottom of the weirs.

Are you saying that the surface in the main display area has a film on it that the system is not removing?

If so, you could increase the output of your return pump for more flow, and/or try pointing a power head at the surface of the tank to break the film up. Additionally, I like the have the water cascade down the baffle a bit as it leaves the first filter chamber and enters the second. This helps with the film and with gas exchange too.

I hope this helps!

Yes, that's correct. I'd tried increasing the return pump but may not have turned it up enough. I do have the power heads pointed at the surface. They're on gyre mode so they push the film back and forth to each side. I'll adjust the pump and see if that helps.

Thanks!

Increasing the pump did the trick. I'd been trying it between 30-40%. Finally at 55% it starting skimming properly.
