Hey guys, I’ve posted about this issue in the past but cannot seem to find an answer. I have a UNS 60A rimless AIO tank, I converted from the sponge filter to the filter sock conversion kit. I am dealing with a lot of film on my tank and I’m almost positive it’s because my water level is too high is equal level to my filter sock chamber from the display just about. What I am noticing is that on the return side of the tank there is a little slit that looks like it’s almost like an overflow for too high of a water level, which my water is well over. And on the overflow side into the filter sock the water level is almost to the top. I’ve tried to lower it so it can do a better job at skimming and not being at an equal level but anytime I do that the return pump chamber gets way to low and the pump begins to shoot bubbles. I’ve read that lowering the speed of the pump can help bring the water level down of the display but then it’s way to slow and not agitating surface at all. Is there a way to fix this? Sorry if I worded this poorly LOL.

If you dont have a skimmer you will have the oily surface on most tanks. Maybe lowering the level so the wier can clear it faster might help. What type of mechanical filteration are you using??? Socks , floss, anything at all? Ok i see ....make sure your sock isnt already clogged they can clog up and cause it to by pass which could lead to it being high at your overflow weir. If your return pump chamber is going dry to keep level low enough sounds like it need more water. You cant run the whole flow with just the return pumps you will need some in tank wave pumps of some sort for additional flow to keep surface moving. Also are you using the recommended pump size for the aquarium???

I am trying to lower the level in display tank by about an inch but I can’t without the 3rd chamber (where return pump is) going completely dry… that’s why I’m trying to see if there’s some sort of trick to it

I dont know maybe drain some out of the display into a bucket to where it suppose to be then see how it settles. Sounds like your drain is smaller than your return and or return pump size....thats all i can say without seeing it

In the second chamber, there is like a plastic screw thing, is that for adjusting the level?

Based on top down image I found online, the final chamber has a super high wall to get over...

Im not sure but i dont think so unless it lowers the wier teeth grid up or down. Turn off main pump and move it and see
I’ve tried turning pump off and then lowered water, it just runs pump dry, I’m going to go to my LFS and see if they have any ideas, so frustrating lol

So I went to my LFS, they said it’s just the tanks design and the only way to fix the water level is to just lower the pump speed. I was concerned because it’s just over 10x the volumes return rate and they said it only needed to be 3x. So it’s now running at around 110gph with 15 gallons of water and it lowered it self a bit.

Reduce return pump output slightly and water will rise

For the chamber it’s in yes, but the display level will lower

Is it a fixed weir? If not, raise the weir.

I'm able to adjust my tank water level by raising/lowering the weir.
