Hi,

I remember reading a thread on here where someone tried to grow up one of these tiny hammers from the stalk of the parent, does anyone recall the thread name!? I can’t find it! Anyway I want to document my attempt at it. Pics are of tiny hammer and mother colony. Baby is in different tank doing really well, can see growth already.

Wow. I recall reading and posting about this. I had a hammer drop polyps and glued them but they eventually bailed. Watching this. I’ll see if I can find pics.

Here’s an old pic of mine. I’m surprised I found it. It’s a torch actually. It eventually left the plug. I had a few in fact. Bad luck on my part.

I had 3 baby frogspawn growing of my frag. I tried to take one of them off and it crushed completely so I left the other two to grow some more.

Awesome! Pics?

Update on mine! I have two now, the smaller one was crushed and it was just the stump but I left it. To my surprise polys grew out of it and its looking great now! Both are clearly growing larger. I spray reef chili on top of them a few times a week :) Looking good so far!

The thread I saw the person's little heads all died. I found a tiny one about a month ago on the backside of a piece of live rock. Must have been a spawn. I dremelled it off and am growing it out. I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Didn’t think it would be that hard to grow these babies out. I’m in process of doing one right now which I snipped off the mother due to where it was growing on stalk. So far it has been on plug over a month and looks happy. Yours looks just like mine does. Guess he’s just as happy. Good luck.

I believe since you got them off they will be fine. I’m almost positive that when left on the parent stalk most don’t survive because they don’t get enough light. The two I had on my frogspawn have since withered away. But the main head has split into 2 new heads

I guess I forgot to take a pic of mine in August, but this is it last night. I found it in July and this is all the growth in 6 months. Frag plug is either 1" or 1.25". Super slow growth, if I was a business, growing them out this way would not be part of my model.

So pretty much all of my Euphyllia have these tiny heads growing out of the main stalks.
I assumed that if I just left them, they would keep getting bigger and grow into new heads...

But based on comments here, it seems these usually just die off because they don't get enough light?

if that is the case, then I'm going to try cutting them all off and fragging them. If they are going to die anyway, might as well try. One of my frogspawn has like 5 or 6. Another hammer has 3 or 4. I have lots of glue and frags... may as well try it. I think I will try to cut them off with a dremel as to not crush them.
