Hey everyone,

Just seeing if anyone has tips or a video tutorial on removing a zoa colony from a piece of rock. Like is there a way to gently peel them off? The piece of rock this colony is on is always getting covered in algae and has a few aptasia living in it, that's why I would like to get rid of this rock and preserve my zoas on a better base.

Thank you

I think you'd need to use a small, sharp blade like a razor blade or scalpel. Be sure to wear gloves and/or ensure you have no open wounds, because zoas can release potentially very harmful palytoxin when damaged or stressed.

If removing the rock is an option, that will probably make things easier to work outside of the tank.

Not only gloves...more important eye protection..allot can squirt and the release if it gets in your eye most certainly can be a trip to the ER...so make sure you have something over your eyes as we tend to get real close when we frag...or glue corals.
