To reef link or not to?

So, Im beginning my 3rd tank, (2nd saltwater tank) Im huge on my softies so yes it will most likely be a softie nano tank with maybe a couple torches. Nq ive got myself a radion xr15 g4. Never used it, tank isnt even ordered yet. Should i use a reeflink or should i just program through plugging in via USB?

It all depends on how much you like to tinker with your lights. If you're a set it and forget it then I would opt out. If you like to tweek and change schedules and add cloud cover and storm effects then a reeflink would be worth it instead of having to unhook the lights, hook them up to the computer, program, and then reinstall them :) Do you have an apex? If so there is a module you can get for the apex to control them wirelessly with the apex unit .

I think Reeflink is very much worth it just for the Convenience of wirelessly connecting to everything.

i do not have an apex. Never really thought i need one. Maybe when we finally move into a new house ill make a new tank with one, hopefully.

Anyways, ive always wanted to fiddle with the lights to see which one will help grow what. Looking into the reeflink a bit more, i dont see why the $99 wouldnt be worth it, wireless connection to work with. i think ive got my answer.

God have mercy. Just had to set one up for a friend. It's the most buggy thing I've ever installed. Absolutely annoying. Don't even talk about instructions. There are little details you find out along the way that should have been clear in a manual of some sort.

Don't get me started on Ecosmart live. Utter rubbish. The Hydra he upgraded from was plug in, app, lights! Amen.

Once you finally set stuff up, you won't want to touch that thing again. You might want increase or decrease intensity but my advice is just by a long usb cable and leave it connected to the light if the port isn't easily accessible and just use your PC.

If you can connect to it :) I had Radions and Vortechs on a previous tank and I had to reset it almost everytime I attempted to access it.

If it was reliable, I agree it's worth $99 if running multiple Ecotech products. My experience with it was frustrating at best, it's been a couple years though, maybe firmware updates have helped.

im guessing his apex or something along that line. not sure. But he literally went alexa, tell apex to feed the sps.

My experience with Neptune APEX is that I am seriously impressed. I do not know the history with their past products but their APEX Fusion Cloud product is free and amazing. I am a software engineer (over 30yr) with a major tech company so I do not give praise lightly. And you don't need my experience to set it up and deal with it.

It's really the center of my build and it's been extremely valuable.

Honestly, you're in it for the light and maybe the pumps (not sure the pumps can be programmed without the reeflink).

Once you have that setup you're pretty much done. My friend spent the money but had it been me, I'd have just done what I had suggested which is an extra long usb cable and a laptop. Spend money on coral. Not something you might rarely ever use. Another option is to buy a used one or buy an Apex.
